General Summary/Purpose

The Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing is seeking a Research Interventionist. The Research Interventionist will be based on the Fort Peck Reservation in Montana. The main focus of this position will be delivery of the 12-component intergenerational curriculum with pre-Head Start Native American (NA) children (age 3-5 years old) and their parents. This program is based on the “Little Holy One” research project which was designed by Dr. Teresa Brockie, and her co-researchers for the families of the Fort Peck Assiniboine and Sioux tribal communities located in Montana.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

This description is a general statement of required major duties and responsibilities performed on a regular and continuous basis. It does not exclude other duties as assigned.

  • Identify and recruit eligible participants for the research studies, ensuring the target number of participants are enrolled
  • Explain study objectives, risks, and benefits with potential participants to recruit participants
  • Administer informed consent
  • Implement intervention and control curriculum delivery on topics of parenting skills, mental health, and culture
  • Build rapport with participants, children and caregivers, in the study with a focus on retention of research participants
  • Maintain a high level of confidentially and trust with participants and research team, must be willing to sign confidentiality agreement
  • Manage and track participant referrals to appropriate community resources
  • Attend community meetings to represent the project and maintain contacts with community partners
  • Develop and implement standard operating procedures related to curriculum development
  • Document and maintain accurate participant information and visit summaries per research protocol
  • Informs timeline and protocol development
  • Able to describe the Little Holy One research study and be a positive representative of the study to participants, community members, and stakeholders
  • Provides updates on current progress of the study as requested
  • Understand randomized control trial with embedded single-case experimental design and the implications of the study design for curriculum implementation

Minimum Qualifications(Required)

  • High School Diploma/GED. Bachelor's degree preferred
  • Two (2) years related experience

Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by theJHU Equivalency Formula:18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for the required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job. *

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Associate’s degree in related discipline preferred
  • Five (5) years of experience in research, early childhood education, and/or culture
  • Two (2) years of related experience working with Native American populations preferably in research or clinical setting.

  • Current driver’s license issued by the state of residence and good driving record required.
  • This position will maintain background clearance as required by the employer and any collaborating agencies.

Ability to travel as needed, including overnight trips for extended days, if needed.

This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
