The Department of Anesthesiology & Critical Care Medicine is seekingSr. Nurse Practitionerto provide comprehensive patient care within an interdisciplinary team.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

Conduct comprehensive and/or episodic health assessments for critically ill children. Records and documents assessment data necessary to maintain, coordinate, and/or expedite required services. This will include:

  • Perform history and physical exams, discriminating between normal and abnormal findings
  • Identify differential diagnosis.

Establishes a Plan of Care including:

  • Order appropriate lab, radiographic and other studies.
  • Appropriately interpret results of lab, radiographic and other studies.
  • Performs tests and procedures as indicated within scope of practice.
  • Establish a plan of care related to patient’s identified problems, including medication and therapeutic procedures.
  • Consult with other team members regarding proposed treatment guidelines as necessary.

Implements Plan of Care in safe and effective manner. This will include:

  • Prescribe and regulate medications and performs other related procedures within the Maryland Board of Nursing scope of practice for the Nurse Practitioner.
  • Record patient visit/interaction in concise clear logical and timely manner.
  • Arrange referrals to appropriate specialties when needed.
  • Triage patient telephone calls, messages, and interactions appropriately.
  • Tracks patient compliance with treatment plan.

Organize workload to meet patient and organizational needs including:

  • Utilize time management to see patients in an efficient manner as identified by departmental goals.
  • Maintain consistent level of productivity. Identifies problems that impede overall functioning and initiates appropriate interventions.
  • Work collaboratively with the health team members to facilitate smooth operations of the unit.

Communicates with healthcare team members to assure patient and organizational needs are met. This will include:

  • Supervise activities of team members as appropriate.
  • Identify areas of weakness in operational systems and makes recommendations for improvements.
  • Communicate significant information in an organized, logical, and concise manner to co-workers.
  • Provide constructive feedback as it relates to performance in an appropriate manner.
  • Adheres to the confidentiality policy as outlined in the interdisciplinary Clinical Practice Manual.
  • Make recommendations to Administrative leadership related to Clinic administrative operations.
  • Analyzes research findings and current trends in the area of specialty and applies the information, as appropriate, to improve the management of patient care.

Participates in the development of the interdisciplinary team.

  • Orients newly hired nurse practitioners and nurse practitioner students.
  • Provides formal and informal education for members of the interdisciplinary team.

Collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to assure organizational goals are met.

  • Active participation in unit based committee.
  • Active participation in quality and safety initiatives. © Supports the institutions Core Values.

Minimum Qualifications:

Master's degree in nursing; Registered Nurse license and Certified as a Nurse Practitioner-Acute Care. Must be licensed as NP in State of Maryland or other state where practicing. Three years experience in related clinical area, and obtained proficiency in area of specialty. Prefer at least 5 years related experience. Residency or fellowship programs in area of specialization may substitute for some experience. Current CPR certification required. Must maintain current licensure and certification during duration of employment. Completion of the JHH credentialing process is required prior to start date.

Technical Qualifications or Specialized Certifications: Current licensure as a NP in the state of Maryland and CPR Certification. Achieve and maintain national certification by an accredited NP certification body (PNCB).

Physical Requirements:

Sitting, standing and walking for extended period. Reaching by extending hand(s) or arm(s) in any direction. Finger dexterity required to manipulate objects with fingers rather than with whole hand(s) or arm(s). Ability to move standard equipment through a hospital or clinical environment.

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
