Texas State University has launched a new civil engineering program focused on the breadth of concepts associated with technology-enhanced (Smart) infrastructure. Currently, the program seeks to fill two tenure-line positions in geotechnical engineering, 1) associate professor to preferably begin Spring 2021, and 2) assistant professor to begin Fall 2021. Preference will be given to candidates who have experience in any of the following: sensor technologies; data transmission, storage, and secure sharing; data analytics; or asset management. Women and minority candidates are strongly encouraged to apply.

The successful candidates will be expected to establish a program of externally funded collaborative research, exhibit a strong commitment to student-centered teaching and mentoring, teach general civil and geotechnical engineering courses, and perform university and professional service.

To be considered for the rank of associate professor and separately for tenure, the successful candidate must meet the relevant requirements of the Ingram School of Engineering, the College of Science and Engineering, the University, and the Texas State System Board of Regents.

Required Qualifications

Qualifications required for assistant professor rank:
• An earned doctorate in civil engineering, or a closely related discipline.
• Professional Licensure/Registration (PE) or the ability to obtain licensure within three years of initial hire.
• Demonstrated excellence in written and oral communication.

Additional qualifications required for the associate professor rank:

• A strong track record of research demonstrated by publications in internationally recognized journals and conferences.
• Proven ability as an effective teacher in an academic environment with diverse cultures.
• Meet the relevant requirements of the Ingram School of Engineering, College of Science and Engineering, the University and the TSUS Board of Regents to be tenured at the rank of associate professor.

Preferred Qualifications

• An ability to work collaboratively with faculty across multiple departments and programs, particularly related to the application of technology to the monitoring and maintenance of infrastructure assets.
• Industrial, commercialization, or post-doctoral experience.
• Demonstrated experience writing and securing grants and contracts.
• Demonstrated experience with one or more of the following digital tools/technologies: sensor technologies; data transmission, storage, and secure sharing; data analytics; or asset management.
