General Summary/Purpose

The Johns Hopkins-India Maternal and Child Health Center in India (MCHI) led by The International Vaccine Access Center, JHSPH, seeks to support efforts to achieve the child health-related United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in India. The Center will focus on (i) public health research and practice, by accelerating the introduction and effective implementation of existing child health interventions in India, with a particular focus on vaccine-preventable diseases and difficult-to-reach populations as well as (ii) building public health capacity in India, and in West Bengal in particular by providing didactic and hands-on training as well as support doctoral and advanced degree courses.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

We are seeking a dynamic, motivated, collaborative individual to provide core support in numerous areas of global health education and curriculum development for the MCHI. The coordinator will support the preparation for and implementation of an initial set of course offerings on global health topics for learners in West Bengal, India. Courses will be offered in virtual/online formats during fall 2020 and winter 2021. The Coordinator will also support a comparative analysis of online learning platform options for the MCHI to use longer term. In addition to tasks related to course development and implementation, a landscape analysis is being conducted to determine the existing public health training capacity in India as well as specific areas of demand for additional training among learner target audiences. The findings from this landscape analysis will inform the MCHI’s training curriculum focus as well as guide potential collaborations and articulation of training goals for the coming years. The Coordinator will then contribute to the development and implementation of an expanded curriculum for the MCHI in collaboration with additional partner organizations in India.

The Coordinator will report to the PI and the Co-investigator, and work closely with the JHU project team and with our partners in India. The job responsibilities will include:

  • Coordinate stakeholders involved in course planning and implementation.
  • Contribute to content development for courses (literature reviews, drafting text content, interview questions for experts).
  • Support learner engagement activities such as online live sessions, etc.
  • Support course promotion activities.
  • Gather information to support a systematic comparison of online learning platforms for MCHI use in the longer term, and develop a narrative of pros and cons and each and recommendations.
  • Contribute to the writing of curriculum documents, reports, and publications related to MCHI capacity strengthening experience.
  • Coordinate multiple stakeholders, including key partners in India, to plan and deliver activities related to courses and curriculum.
  • Perform additional duties related to curriculum development, implementation, and evaluation as the MCHI expands.

Minimum Qualifications(Required)

  • Bachelor’s degree in international education, instructional design, or a related field.
  • Two (2) years of experience working in a professional setting and supporting online learning and technical activities related to educational programs.

Additional education may be substituted for experience to the extent permitted by theJHU Equivalency Formula:18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for the required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job. *

Preferred Qualifications

  • Masters degree preferred.
  • Licensing or certification in teaching or online learning/learning management systems is preferred.
  • Interest, experience, and/or education in public health or a related field highly preferred.
  • Experience traveling to and/or working with partners and/or colleagues from and in low- and middle-income country (LMIC) settings preferred.

Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Proficiency in creating learning activities designed for diverse learners.
  • Interested in working with adult learners/trainees.
  • Interested in curriculum development.
  • Exceptional verbal, interpersonal, and written communication skills in English; high comfort level writing and presenting data and information in a compelling way to different audiences.
  • Ability to work independently as well as with all levels of management and staff.
  • Reliable and trustworthy.
  • Ability to communicate with a wide range of learners from diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks requiring a high degree of attention to detail.
  • Diplomatic, with the ability to exercise proper discretion and judgment.
  • Ability to balance appropriately between independent action and referring issues to supervisors.
  • Advanced computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, Internet, etc.
  • Survey development and evaluation tool development skills are preferred.

This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
