Position Information

Vacancy Number: S-00656 Position Title: Assistant Dean of Student Life Classification Title: Dean Department: Student Affairs Employment Type: Full-Time Duties and Responsibilities:

Coordinates activities associated with student organizations, involvement and leadership programs, other assigned programs and assists administrator as needed.

Collaborate with university marketing to create effective marketing and PR for all orientation programs on all advertising mediums (social media and college websites, flyers, etc.)

Supervises and coordinates the training, selection, and development of student leaders.

Assesses student progress/needs and assists students in obtaining resources and support services as needed.

Oversee the full complement of programming for the AUM student population.

Represents the department at meetings, functions, and other university and community activities.

Oversee the annual allocation of student development funds to clubs and organizations.

Oversee the Intramural Sports Program

Develops, manages, and/or interprets related files (e.g., payroll, documents, reports, forms).

Oversee the day-to-day operations of Warhawk Alley.

Serve as the primary advisor to Student Government Association and Campus Activities Board.

Oversee New Student Orientation, Flight Weeks, and other transition programming.

Support the Orientation and Flight Week programs through coordinating student organization and leadership group participation.

Coordinate special projects as needed.

Develop new programmatic initiatives in conjunction with other units on campus and serve on university committees in areas that focus on student development and success.

Collaborate with Admissions and Enrollment Management stakeholders to establish and utilize communication and data flows to ensure efficiency and effectiveness of student communication and data tracking.

Coordinate office operations and oversee the maintenance of supplies, equipment, and instructional materials.

Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of the University’s student policies and procedures and those related to assigned department
Knowledge of acceptable advising techniques
Skill in making written and oral presentations
Ability to assess student progress and goals
Ability to tutor students
Ability to process, review, and evaluate student documents
Ability to conduct student interviews
Ability to provide training for participants, students, and/or clients
Knowledge of applicable University practices and procedures
Knowledge of Microsoft Office programs to include Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access
Knowledge of the transition needs of first-year and transfer students
Ability to speak in public and make presentations
Ability to supervise
Interpersonal skills
Written communication skills
Ability to respond to multiple competing demands
Ability to use a computer and relevant software applications
Ability to work with individuals from various backgrounds
Ability to effectively use technology
Ability to input data into a CRM and manage students registration and check-in in the orientation registration system
Ability to process, review, and evaluate student documents
Ability to conduct student interviews
Ability to provide training for participants, students, and/or clients

Minimum Qualifications:

Master’s degree, preferably with coursework in student development and/or organizational leadership and six (6) years of experience in work related to student affairs is required. Experience working in higher education is preferred. Additional education in related field may be substituted for experience.

The successful candidate must be a passionate and energetic, self-motivated team player with sound judgment, management and problem-solving skills, flexibility and the ability to manage multiple projects.
