Job Summary

The College of Sciences and Mathematics’ Associate Dean for Research Office is searching for a Contracts and Grants Specialist. This position will provide Contracts and Grants support at the college-level and will provide time sensitive departmental contracts and grants support. Work activities will include working closely with departmental contracts and grants staff to support proposal development, working with faculty on pre- and post-award management, ensuring that proposals are compliant with sponsor requirements, keeping up-to-date on federal sponsor regulations, and working collaboratively with the COSAM Research Office contracts and grants staff.

Essential Functions

Essential functions for the position will include but are not limited to: 1) Proposal development-Acts as a contact person in ADR office for faculty and/or departmental research administration at beginning of proposal process. Coordinates with PIs to identify required information for proposal development activities. The key role of this position is to reduce the administrative burden on faculty so they can focus on the scientific part of proposal.; 2) Research office management- Maintains records of grant activities within the COSAM Research Office. Works with the COSAM ADR and Director of Research to develop annual research reports.; 3) Program coordination- Work collaboratively with the COSAM Research Office staff to provide training to faculty on proposal development, support programmatic activities of the Research Office (e.g., travel
committees, Undergraduate Research Fellowship, graduate liaison, etc.), and support administrative activities undertaken by the Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Studies.; and 4) Proposal editing- Effectively write, edit and proofreads proposals for faculty. Knowledge of different administrative rules for each sponsor. Takes the administrative burden off the faculty so they may focus on the
proposal technical content.

Minimum Skills and Abilities

Candidate must possess excellent written and interpersonal communication skills. Must possess excellent organizational skills as well as the ability to multi-task. In addition, candidates must possess knowledge of basic accounting principles, knowledge of spreadsheets and word processing for report creation, and a willingness to learn the requirements for preparing research proposal for various governmental and non-governmental agencies.
