Position Function

Implement, manage and monitor safety programs, policies, and procedures that meet OSHA and other applicable requirements. Evaluate the organization’s procedures, facilities and equipment by conducting inspections to identify unsafe conditions and to implement safeguards and solutions.

Minimum Education

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in occupational health and safety management, fire science, or related field.

Minimum Experience

At least three years experience in occupational health & safety management to include some elements of fire safety.

Minimum Other

Must possess and maintain a valid Indiana Driver’s License and be insurable under the university’s auto fleet policy.

Authorization to work in the US

Candidates for searches must have current authorization to be employed in the U.S. without employer sponsorship.

Preferred Education

Master’s degree in occupational health and safety management, fire science, or related field.

Preferred Experience

Preferred Other

ASP, CSP or other OSHA affiliated certificate programs.

Pre-Employment Screening

Requires successful completion of a Drivers License check, Requires successful completion of a background check and education verification.

Job Duty

Set and enforce OSHA standards for on the job protections in the categories of Accident Prevention Signs and Tags, Aerial Lifts; Arc Flash; Confined Spaces; Electrical Safety; Exit Routes, Fall Protection, Fire Protection; Hot Work; Lockout/Tagout; Medical Services and First Aid; Heat Stress; Machine Guarding; Overhead Cranes and Hoists; Personal Protective Equipment; Powered Industrial Trucks; Scaffolds and Ladders.



Job Duty

Develop and implement injury and illness prevention programs to find and address workplace hazards and to reduce the number and severity of workplace injuries and illnesses. Said reviews shall take into account management leadership; worker participation; hazard identification; prevention and control; education and training; and program evaluation and improvement.



Job Duty

Ensure supervisors and employees receive training to develop the needed skills and knowledge to perform their work in a safe and healthful manner and are provided all necessary personal protective clothing and equipment required for their tasks. Ensure that contractor employees receive training regarding tunnel and roof access and that they follow the safety rules of the University.



Job Duty

Conduct incident investigations in an attempt to determine the cause of the event, whether a violation of OSHA safety and health standards or the General Duty clause occurred. Investigate employee safety and health complaints/suggestions and near-miss accidents.



Job Duty

Ensure the University has in place an emergency action plan for reporting fires or other emergencies. Said plans to include emergency evacuation and training to assist with the orderly evacuation of employees and students. Monitor fire evacuation drills in residence halls, child care centers and K-12 facilities as part of the university’s fire safety program.



Job Duty

Provide for the routine inspection, testing and maintenance of fire detection systems, pull stations, control panels, alarms, sprinklers, hoods, and extinguishers; verify satisfactory completion of such inspection and testing; accompany fire inspector or insurer with keys to all areas as may be required; provide a process to manage sprinkler system impairments and fire alarms in the event the sprinkler system or fire protection system must be taken out of service.



Job Duty

Provide information and reports to administration regarding the investigation and causation of fires; assist with the development of the Annual Fire Safety Report required for Clery Act Compliance; meet with University departments and student organizations regarding fire hazards associated with special projects or events and ensure fire safety precautions and training for common fire hazards.

Retain all relevant documentation such as incident investigations; industrial hygiene assessments; exposure monitoring results; results of job hazards analyses; training records; Safety Data Sheets ( SDS ); equipment inspections, inspection reports from insurance carriers, government agencies and consultants.
