The Metropolitan Educational Research Consortium ( MERC ) within the School of Education is seeking to hire a postdoctoral fellow. This postdoc position will work within MERC to support the research and evaluation activities of two externally funded projects and lead specific data collection, analysis and dissemination efforts.
Part of this position will involve serving on a team for a longitudinal, mixed-methods evaluation of CodeRVA Regional High School (about 15 hours per week). Job responsibilities will include regular observation of events and presentations, assistance with data collection and analysis, maintenance of records and documentation related to data collection, IRB support, literature review, and instrument development. The postdoctoral fellow will have primary responsibility for editing and formatting of reports; ensuring that reporting materials are prepared and available to the school and team members; and managing recruitment of qualitative research participants, and scheduling tasks associated with qualitative research. The postdoctoral fellow will also be responsible for scheduling observation coverage of school events. This position will also be expected to attend bi-weekly team meetings.
The second part of this position involves supporting efforts to conduct a large-scale evaluation of a Regional Teacher Residency program. Responsibilities include assisting with quantitative survey, qualitative interview and focus groups, and classroom observations data collections and analyses, providing IRB support, conducting related literature reviews, and assisting with reporting writing and dissemination. The postdoctoral fellow will lead specific data collection activities and analyses depending on experience.
Required Qualifications
-Experience designing, directing, and conducting significant program evaluations in education or related fields
-Experience with a variety of quantitative and qualitative data collection and analysis techniques
-Knowledge of SPSS and/or other advanced statistical software, included qualitative data analysis software such as Atlas.ti
-Demonstrated ability to pursue external evaluation contracts and grant funding opportunities
-Strong writing skills
-Strong interpersonal skills
- Experience working as part of a team-based or collaborative research or evaluation project
-Strong computer technology skills
-Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU
-PhD in education, research, or a related field
Preferred Qualifications
-Prior work in PK12 public education
-Record of scholarly publications and presentations
-Experience pursuing external funding
-Demonstrated work (e.g. practice, research, and/or scholarship) in advancing access, equity, and quality education for learners from historically marginalized and underrepresented minority populations living in poverty and/or the educators that serve them
