Job Title: Maintenance III, Plumber

Job Summary

The plumber III is responsible for performing trade-specific, master-level duties primarily in the assigned area of plumbing. This position also performs other general maintenance duties.

Job Responsibilities

  • Maintains buildings and facilities
  • Makes plumbing repairs and inspects the work of others
  • Provides training and guidance to maintenance employees in the area of plumbing
  • Maintains the appropriate license necessary to pull permits within Saint Charles City or County
  • Troubleshoots and repairs issues related to HVAC, carpentry and electrical systems as needed

  • Responds to the needs of students, colleagues and community members in a timely and courteous manner
  • Anticipates needs and responds accordingly
  • Offers individualized solutions with the objective of helping colleagues overcome obstacles and achieve their goals


Communication, Collaboration and Teamwork

  • Coordinates complex projects and activities with co-workers
  • Secures permits for maintenance work to be performed
  • Oversees work being performed to assure it meets code requirements
  • Meets with city and county inspectors to review completed work to finalize permit requirements


Planning, Organizing and Accountability

  • Develops preventative maintenance schedules for all university-owned properties
  • Maintains all tools and equipment
  • Participates in continuing education courses and/or code compliance seminars


Initiative, Problem Solving and Decision Making

  • Assists in conducting safety training for appropriate facilities staff
  • Adheres to safety standards and practices

Job may require other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications – An equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered. Additional requirements may be designated by position.

  • Journeyman certification in plumbing
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience at the journeyman level in the maintenance/construction industry
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Ability to obtain a master-level license recognized by the city and county of Saint Charles, MO within one year
  • Experience operating heavy machinery preferred

  • University campus grounds, both indoors and outdoors

  • On-call availability for evening and weekend emergencies
