Founded in 1898, Northeastern is a global research university and a world leader in experiential learning. The same commitment to connecting with the world drives our use-inspired research enterprise. The university offers a comprehensive range of undergraduate and graduate programs leading to degrees through the doctorate in nine colleges and schools. Our campuses in Charlotte, N.C., San Francisco, Seattle, and Toronto are regional platforms for undergraduate and graduate learning and collaborative research. Northeastern pursues advanced research in security and materials at the Innovation Campus in Burlington, Massachusetts, and in coastal sustainability at the Marine Science Center in Nahant, Massachusetts.
About the Opportunity:
Postdoctoral Research Associate: De Novo Carbohydrate Synthesis for Medicinal Chemistry. One postdoctoral position in carbohydrate synthesis for medicinal chemistry is open in the O'Doherty Laboratory at Northeastern University. The appointment is for two years and may be extended for an additional 1-2 years, depending on continuation of funding and regular progress evaluation.
The ideal candidate is expected to be able to contribute to the group's ongoing efforts aimed at the use of asymmetric synthesis of carbohydrates (aka, De Novo Carbohydrate Synthesis) for the Stereochemical Structure Activity Relationship (S-SAR) studies of biologically relevant carbohydrate containing natural products. Specifically, the candidate will be required to be able to de novo design and synthesize novel analogues of carbohydrate containing molecules with desired biological properties. The candidate will be expected to independently analyze, interpret, and communicate research results.
Strong technical expertise and demonstrated independence in modern techniques required for multi-step synthesis; extensive experience in synthesis, purification, and characterization of organic molecules using modern chromatographic and analytical techniques; excellent communication, organization and time management skills.
Ph.D. in the use of asymmetric catalysis for the synthetic of novel complex biologically active molecule.
How to Apply:
Applications should contain a cover letter briefly describing candidate's background and specific research interests, a full CV with a publication list, Ph.D. completion date, and three letters of references. Review of applications will begin immediately.
