Position Description

The Department of Health Sciences, College of Health, Human Services, and Nursing at California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) invites applications for a Tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor (Academic Year) with the appointment starting in Fall 2021.

The Department of Health Sciences

The Department of Health Sciences has nearly 700 majors and is housed within the College of Health, Human Services, and Nursing. This dynamic and rapidly growing program offers a B.S. degree in Health Science with concentrations in community health, healthcare management, and radiologic technology. A master's degree program is currently under development for implementation within the next few years.

Mission

The mission of the Department of Health Sciences is to:

Strengthen students' intellectual capacities and abilities to develop and mobilize human and institutional resources and services to meet the health needs of diverse individuals and populations, as well as the communities in which they reside.

Educate students in developing and implementing evidence-based assessment and intervention models that improve the biopsychosocial health of diverse individuals and populations, as well as the communities in which they reside.

Prepare scholar-practitioners to engage in multidisciplinary scientific inquiry that advances the knowledge base of research and practice in the health disciplines.

Prepare graduates who will be leaders in their fields and professions to inform and influence professional dialogues on key health issues affecting diverse individuals and populations, as well as the communities in which they reside.

Prepare scholar-activists who -- with a global consciousness and ecosystemic perspective -- are committed to attaining health equity and collective well-being through the promotion of human development, universal human rights, and social justice.

The Position

This is an academic year tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor in Health Sciences beginning August 2021. Candidates are sought with a doctorate in public health and a focus on health administration, or in health administration with an MPH or other CEPH-accredited master's degree, or in business or public administration and a focus on health administration and an MPH or other CEPH-accredited master's degree.

Responsibilities

Excellence in teaching, scholarly publications, service to the university and community, student advisement and recruitment, curriculum development, and other responsibilities consistent with the mission of the University and the requirements of the Department and College are expected. Teaching duties may consist of day, evening, weekend, and/or online classes in both the current undergraduate and planned graduate programs. Teaching areas include but are not limited to healthcare finance; health services, operations, and strategic management; quantitative and qualitative analysis and problem-solving; health information systems and analytics; health management sciences; GIS; organizational theory and behavior; design and innovation; leadership; and health law and ethics.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications
  • Applicants must have experience in teaching undergraduates from diverse age, socioeconomic, cultural, and academic backgrounds.
  • Earned doctorate in public health with a focus on health administration, or in health administration with an MPH or other CEPH-accredited master's degree, or in business or public administration with a focus in health administration and an MPH or other CEPH-accredited master's degree;
  • current or recent experience in the healthcare industry and working with diverse populations;
  • scholarly publications commensurate with experience;
  • curriculum development experience; and
  • evidence of a strong commitment to student success.
  • If doctorate is in progress, it must be completed before the start date of employment.

  • Preferred Qualifications
    • Excellent teaching track-record;
    • Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives;
    • scholarly publications;
    • grant writing experience;
    • involvement in discipline related issues at local, national or international levels;
    • established relationships with community-based organizations and health agencies;
    • mentorship of students engaged in research;
    • program development experience;
    • experience with students learning outcomes assessment; and
    • program accreditation experience.

    Employment Requirement - Background Check

    Satisfactory completion of a background check (including a criminal records check) is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.

The US Equivalency certification is used to validate foreign studies from an academic credential evaluation agency and is evaluated on foreign studies and deemed to be equivalent to degrees from the United States. The certification must translate the information in English, and confirm that your highest terminal degree is US Equivalent to a US terminal degree (i.e., Bachelor's, Master's, Doctorate's, Doctor's of Philosophy).
