West Chester University of Pennsylvania’s Early and Middle Grades Education Department invites applicants for the position of tenure-track Assistant Professor in Early Childhood/Early Grades Education. The Department of Early and Middle Grades Education offers undergraduate and post-baccalaureate programs for 1,200 students seeking state certification to teach children from pre-kindergarten through grade eight. The Department offers two M.Ed. programs for graduate students, a M.Ed. in Early Childhood Education and a M.Ed. in Applied Studies in Teaching and Learning. Other graduate programs include post-baccalaureate certification in PK-4th Grade and 4th-8th grade, a Teacher Leadership certificate/state endorsement and a Principal certificate.

Responsibilities:  Faculty responsibilities include teaching excellence, scholarship and publication, service to the university, community and profession, and advising students.

Primary responsibilities for this position include teaching methods and supervising field experience courses addressing infants and toddlers, preschool-age children, as well as primary-grade children with the possibility of teaching other courses in the department. Minimum Qualifications:  Applicants must have: (1) an earned doctorate or ABD in Early Childhood, Elementary Education, or closely related field from an accredited higher education institution, with completion no later than August 2021; (2) a minimum of three years full-time teaching experience in U.S. programs or schools with children, Infants to Grade 4; (3) professional educator certification in Early Childhood Education or Elementary Education.

Preferences:  (1) A record of teaching experiences in diverse settings with children, Infants to Grade 4; (2) University early childhood or early grades course teaching experience; (3) University field experience supervision of pre-service teachers in programs and schools for infants to Grade 4; (4) University distance education teaching experience; (5) A promising record of scholarly presentations and publications; and (6) a promising record of grant authorship or co-authorship seeking funds for professional activities.
