The Communication Sciences & Disorders (CSD) Master's program, Speech@Emerson, combines online and in-person learning for aspiring speech-language pathologists across the US. Our program prepares students to become Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs) capable of working in any setting, with a variety of disorders, across the lifespan.

CSD is seeking an Assistant Director, Program & Student Support who is a certified Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) that will be responsible for the advisement of our new and continuing students' academic progress. This person will communicate regularly and collaborate closely with program leadership and Student Success Advisors to gain a full understanding of advisees' academic and clinical progress. This individual will review and render admission decisions and will play a key role at each Immersion, where students will complete seminars on academic and clinical topics. The Assistant Director will support clinical placements, ensuring sites meet program qualifications and will be expected to problem-solve, and demonstrate thoughtful, strategic, and student-focused decision making.

Academic Advising & Support
  • Advise and consult with students on the field of Speech Language Pathology (SLP), meeting each semester as part of an assigned advising caseload to monitor completion of program portfolio documents, discuss SLP related topics and ensure academic and programmatic requirements are being met.
  • Consult and partner with the Graduate Program Director, Student Success Advisors, and the Director of Clinical Education, to provide academic updates, review clinical placements and document students' progression.
  • Streamline processes with internal departments and external partners to inform and provide feedback to ensure policies, protocols and program requirements are being maintained.
  • Lead exit interview sessions, and provide students with information to adhere to American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) standards for certification and licensure.

Admissions
  • Interpret and apply academic criteria to determine an applicant's eligibility to the Speech@Emerson program. Maintain currency on admissions requirements, new and current student enrollments each term, program policies, and ASHA guidelines.
  • Review and analyze course descriptions, syllabi, and other documentation to evaluate foundational level coursework, observation hours and general educational requirements.
  • Represent the program at school events, conferences, and serve as a Speech@Emerson representative for prospective and current student webinars.

Program & Placement Support
  • Partner with the Director of Clinical Education to assess placement site qualifications, and conduct virtual placement site visits.
  • Participate in committee work, manage database systems and ongoing process and operational improvements as required.

Immersion Support
  • Participate in the planning and logistics of Immersions by coordinating sessions, facilitating and leading forums, and meeting with advisees.
  • Work with CSD leadership to evolve and inform Immersion sessions, outcomes and the overall student experience.
