The Department of Criminal Justice and Social Work at the University of Houston-Downtown invites applications for a Criminal Justice tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning in Fall 2021. Areas of expertise for teaching and research for this position are open. Duties of the position include teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate levels in both face-to-face and online formats. In addition to teaching, the position requires candidates to establish a successful program of research, pursue funding to support their research, and to work with others, including students, to engage in research and service activities that support the missions of the Department, College, and University.


The Department offers three Criminal Justice programs, the Bachelors of Science in Criminal Justice, the Bachelors of Applied Arts and Sciences in Criminal Justice, and the Masters of Science in Criminal Justice. The mission of the Department is to prepare students for public service careers in the fields of criminal justice and social work. In furtherance of this mission, the faculty recognize the connection between excellence in education, research, scholarship, and service with applied, theoretical, and policy relevance. Thus the Department strives to provide students with knowledge, skills and values that are sufficient to serve in social service and criminal justice systems, prepare them for professional and managerial careers as well as research and advanced study.

Applicants must have earned a Ph.D. in Criminal Justice or a related discipline by the time of hire. A Juris Doctorate alone will not suffice as a terminal degree for this position.
