Air University's Cyber College invites applications from qualified individuals for the position of Professor of Cyber Warfare Studies with preference for candidates working on problems at the intersection of cyber power, national security and military operations. The primary purpose of this position is to design, develop, and deliver the College's in-residence and distance educational programs and produce scholarly research within the cyber policy discipline.

Responsibilities

Faculty serving in the Cyber College apply their academic expertise to the development of curriculum for graduate students, teach non-resident and/or in-resident classes, and participate, as required, in activities that support the school's and Air University's courses of cyber studies. Faculty members may also teach elective courses and advise student research projects. Because of the interdisciplinary nature of the cyber program, faculty may be required to teach across other disciplines within the school. Student population includes U.S. and partner nation military members and U.S. federal civilian employees. Course delivery formats vary across types of programs, including resident and non-resident courses, but typical courses involve faculty-guided discussion-based seminars of 6-15 students.

Faculty are expected to pursue an active research agenda in the areas of expertise related to cyberspace. Faculty plan and conduct research as necessary to support curriculum development and refinement. Research should follow with the pursuit to publish in professional academic and military journals and other commercial and government publications. In addition to personal research and student research advising, faculty may participate in the Research Task Force where faculty members and students collaborate to solve contemporary problems related to cyber warfare and answer research questions posed by leaders of operational military units.

Faculty perform service roles to support the Air Force Cyber College and Air University as academic institutions. Service roles may include providing advice and counsel to Course Directors, Department Directors, and Deans on topics related to cyber warfare and academic affairs, reviewing and providing opinions on draft Department of Defense publications, serving on peer review committees, and performing outreach to partner with peer institutions.

Qualifications

This position has a particular focus on cyberspace strategies, policies, theories and operations. Faculty members require a broad knowledge of the ways and means by which the US (and, in particular, the US Air Force) is developing the strategies, policies, capabilities, and organizations to defend the nation in cyberspace. Also desired is a record of publication, broad knowledge of service and/or joint military strategy and doctrine, national military strategy, military thought and theory, military history, joint/combined planning and joint and combined warfighting strategies. Academic curriculum development and teaching experience at the graduate level and/or extensive relevant professional experience is highly desired. Successful candidates will have performed notable scholarly research in matters pertaining to cybersecurity policy and strategy. Demonstrated superior teaching performance and experience with graduate- level resident and non-resident programs is desired. Experience in professional military education in the areas of curriculum development and teaching in the subject areas above is desired.

Candidates must hold an earned doctoral degree in a relevant academic discipline and field, such as public policy, international relations, security studies, psychology/sociology as it applies to the cyber domain or a closely related academic concentration. Terminal degrees in technical fields are also relevant, including operations research, engineering, data analytics, computer science, mathematics or a closely related academic concentration.
