The Department of Sociology and Anthropology at Muskingum University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in Sociology at the rank of Assistant Professor for a Spring 2021 appointment.  The department is seeking diverse candidates for this position who are committed to collaboration and will be ready to create synergies within our campus and the surrounding community.  While the area of specialization is open, the position requires the ability to teach courses in race, class, and social justice as well as introductory level sociology.

A doctorate in Sociology is required.  ABD candidates will be considered, with the understanding that the terminal degree must be completed within one year and rank will be instructor until the completion of the doctoral degree.  The successful candidate will have experience in undergraduate teaching, a passion for student development and advising, and a strong interest in building experiential learning opportunities.  Professional activity, including publication, is required for tenure and promotion.  An equal opportunity employer, Muskingum University particularly welcomes applications from candidates from populations historically underrepresented in the academy, and/or who have experience working with students from diverse backgrounds.

Muskingum is a comprehensive university with a strong liberal arts tradition located just seventy miles east of Columbus, Ohio, in the village of New Concord.  The university’s total undergraduate, graduate, and adult-learner student population is approximately 3,000.  The university actively seeks out and welcomes faculty and staff who are committed to inclusive excellence in teaching and student learning, thrive in a collaborative environment of scholars, embrace experiential learning, consider the engagement of diverse communities in the educational experience, and desire to mentor a multicultural student population.

To apply, send the following materials electronically to: socsearch@muskingum.edu

  • Letter of application addressing the qualities and qualifications sought by the university for this position
  • A current curriculum vitae
  • Copies of all graduate transcripts
  • List of three professional references with contact information and relationship to applicant

Questions may be directed to Dr. Sandra Schroer (sschroer@muskingum.edu) Chair, Department of Sociology & Anthropology.

The position is expected to begin in January of 2021.   To be considered in the first screening, application and supporting materials should be received by October 25, 2020.  Appointment to this position is conditional upon the successful completion of a background check through the University's background check agency.
