Dean, School of Journalism & Graphic Communication

 

Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (FAMU) is seeking an innovative, strategic, and dynamic leader to serve as dean for the School of Journalism & Graphic Communication (SJGC). The dean is the chief academic and administrative officer for the SJGC and works closely with other campus deans and senior administrators. While reporting to the provost and vice president for academic affairs, the dean participates in setting University goals and policies.

The chief purpose of this position will be to provide leadership and administration for the SJGC, and to ensure its continued development, operation, expansion, and enhancement. The successful candidate for the dean of SJGC position will possess:

 

  • Graduate degree required, terminal degree preferred in any discipline, with a minimum of 18 graduate hours in journalism, public relations, mass communication, or graphic communication;
  • Senior level professional experience with a regional, national, or international organization specializing in journalism, public relations, mass communication or graphic communication; and/or a minimum of five years of post-secondary teaching experience;
  • The successful candidate will have significant experience as it relates to the industry;
  • Minimum of three years of experience in senior-level administration;
  • Proven track record of fundraising and donor contributions, fiscal and administrative experience with strong management and organizational skills; and
  • Strong interpersonal skills and high social intelligence to expand SJGC research, service programs, facilities, and technology while encouraging and developing the faculty, staff, and students.
