Description: The UTC College of Engineering and Computer Science seeks an energetic, articulate, and creative professional to grow and lead its Center for Student Success. The Center for Student Success in the College administers student support services, undergraduate recruiting, and industry and community engagement. Reporting to the Dean, the Director is responsible for the development and management of the Center for Student Success and plays a key role on the college leadership team, representing the College and Center for Student Success to external and internal stakeholders. This position will have primary oversight of undergraduate student success in the College including academic advising and career services, the residential learning community, and other academic and non-academic student related activities that promote student engagement and support student retention, progression toward graduation, and degree completion. In addition, the Director will develop a student recruiting strategy for the College and be responsible for overseeing interaction with local and regional high schools and community colleges to recruit students to the College of Engineering and Computer Science. Responsibilities include:

Developing, delivering, and managing programmatic activities that support student success, retention, and graduation

Responsible for overseeing programs to support student success; confer with Department Heads, Faculty and Academic Advisors to develop student success plans for their majors; Recruit for and oversee the residential learning community for the college; act as a liaison between students and other university personnel as needed; create and offer activities/programs to improve students' academic planning skills, performance, and graduation including FYE learning communities, peer mentorship program, peer-tutoring, study groups, and student engineering society/social events; oversee annual CECS Get on Board Day to encourage new freshman and current students to join student societies; create and manage student data to improve services resulting in measured impact of career guidance on student and graduate outcomes, including GPA, internships/co-op, placement, and salary; keep abreast of higher education best practices and trends in student success; leverage university programming to support college goals; supervise the First Year Experience Coordinator/GA.

Developing, delivering, and managing career and internship placement; industry partner engagement

Coordinate bi-annual College Fairs and Prep for the Fair programming; manage interactions and network with key industry partners to facilitate new, continued, and expanded professional opportunities for students and graduates; collaborate with departments and student organizations to develop student success plans improving overall marketability and capacity of engineering, engineering management and technology, and computer science students; supervise the career counselor; oversee Handshake and First Destination Survey (FDS) data for the college.

Developing, delivering, and managing student recruitment efforts

Develop, facilitate, and manage comprehensive student recruitment strategy for the College, including: interaction with local and regional high schools and community colleges; collaboration with University Admissions programs; supervising recruiting and outreach staff; to include outreach coordinator, recruitment staff and the Ambassador program; facilitate tour program for prospective students.

Developing, delivering, and managing academic advising

Supervise professional academic advisors, including advising coordinator; oversee the design and implementation of advising programs and schedules and the peer advisor program; organize and conduct college-wide orientation sessions; organize and conduct college-wide success series workshops.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; attention to detail; problem solving ability; ability to work effectively with students, staff and faculty of all cultural backgrounds and experience levels; ability to understand and abide by federal and university guidelines regarding students

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree; five or more years of professional experience developing and implementing programs aimed at supporting student success, or comparable demonstrated expertise; experience articulating and advancing the mission of an organization; ability and proven track record in developing, implementing, and sustaining new initiatives

Preferred Qualifications: Master's Degree; professional experience, preferably within higher education, in some area of Engineering, Computer Science, Technology, Business, or related areas
