Job Summary

Coordinate and oversee a variety of student affairs/student life programs and services in order to improve the quality of student life and improve student retention.


The Office of Student Diversity and Inclusion (SDI) works collaboratively with student organizations and campus partners to plan and provide programming, special events, training and educational opportunities that enhance diversity, equality and equity; while creating an inclusive and supportive campus environment for all students regardless of age, gender identity, gender expression, race, religion, ethnicity, disability, sexual orientation, socioeconomic, or political background. Student Diversity and Inclusion also encourages and promotes holistic student success through student support and mentoring initiatives.

Typical Allocation of Duties:

Deliver Programs and Services for Students - 40%
Develop, implement, and market programs and/or services which reflect the goals of the student affairs office and meets the needs of students. Implement data-based initiatives to gather and analyze formal and informal feedback from students. Stay abreast of trends, issues and best practices regarding a specific professional area.

Support Student Development - 20%
Provide coaching, guidance, and supervision of both individuals and student organizations on issues related to academic achievement, student development, leadership, conflict resolution, community building, and collaboration with other students and student groups on campus. Focus on creating an inviting and welcoming environment. Foster an atmosphere of student-staff learning and development.

Promote and develop partnerships - 20%
Develop and maintain initiative-based partnerships with campus partners and student organizations that address assessed needs and further the goals and vision of student affairs. Respond to campus partners, alumni and parent's questions, concerns and inquiries.

Enforce policies and procedures - 10%
Enforce university and system policies and procedures. Respond to issues and resolve problems.

Manage reports, records, and budgets - 10%
Maintain program files and records. Prepare a variety of regular and special report. Manage programming budgets.


Supervisor Expectations:

  • Assist with initiatives to further campus diversity, equity and inclusion through collaboration with other divisions and departments campus wide to advance diversity and inclusion work.
  • Develop programs and opportunities to highlight diversity and inclusion through events such as Fall Explosion, holidays, marketing and communications.
  • Effectively develop and facilitate diversity trainings on a range of topics and to a variety of campus constituents (e.g. SDI Ally Training)
  • Provide support to Student Organization programs through collaborations and by attending meetings and events.
  • Lead and/or Advise SDI based student advisory or mentor councils for undergraduates and graduate students (e.g. DISC, MAP, FIERCE, etc.)
  • Implement assessment and evaluation strategies related to programmatic advising, trainings, and other areas of student engagement.
  • Serve on Student Affairs and University groups and committees as assigned.
  • Serve as an ambassador for VSU through participation in select professional associations and other related professional groups, to remain current on higher education diversity and inclusion trends and best practices
  • Perform other related duties as assigned


Required Qualifications

Required Experience
Master's Degree with graduate assistantship, practicum, or internship experience in higher education or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.

Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background check. Position May Require Credit Check (if using P-Card, working with Cash, etc.).

Position Requires completion of VSU’s Annual Compliance Training course (such as State Business Transactions, Drug Free Workplace, Anti-Harassment Policy, Introduction to Information Security, Workers Compensation, Motor Vehicle Policy, USG Ethics Policy, Conflict of Interest/ Outside Activities Policy, Leave Procedures for Faculty and Staff, Georgia Open Records Act, Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), and Contracts 101. Supervisory positions require training in FMLA and Worker’s Compensation.
