Job Summary/Basic Function

The Criminology, Sociology, & Anthropology department at Millersville University welcomes applications for a tenure-track position with specialization in criminology and quantitative methodology, to begin August 2021. We are a teaching intensive institution and value community engagement, as well as scholarly contributions. The successful candidate should have a strong record in teaching and mentoring undergraduate students in both face-to-face and online modalities.
TEACHING AND PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES :
We are a teaching intensive institution and are committed to community based research, service learning, community engagement and distance education. Our small classes allow for close mentoring and collaborative research with undergraduates.
Effectively teach students both in assigned courses and outside-the-classroom settings (e.g., student research, service learning, etc.), advise students, and carry out other assigned professional responsibilities in support of student learning and success. The academic-year workload for full-time faculty is 24 workload hours and faculty must hold a minimum of five office hours per week on no fewer than three different days. Effectively teach Criminology courses such as: Introduction to Criminology, Policing and the Courts, Juvenile Delinquency, and/or Modern Corrections AND Quantitative Methods courses including but not limited to: Statistics and Research Methods. Actual assignments will depend upon department needs.
Candidates must be willing to teach day, evening and/or weekend classes and conduct classes on and off the Millersville campus through multifaceted teaching strategies for person-to-person classroom delivery and/or web-enhanced or web-based formats. Faculty are expected, per the Collective Bargaining Agreement Article 4, to engage in professional responsibilities such as curriculum development and update; learning outcomes assessment for courses and programs; and participating in department, college, and university meetings and workshops.

DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION :
The Department of Criminology/Sociology/Anthropology, in the College / School of Humanities and Social Sciences, is comprised of six Sociologists and three Anthropologists, one support staff, 200 students, and offers a Sociology/Criminology major, Criminology minor, Sociology major & minor, and a fully online Criminology degree completion program. Faculty in the department contribute to interdisciplinary minors in African-American, Latin@ and Women’s & Gender studies programs. The department is also affiliated with the Center for Public Scholarship and Social Change and the Environmental Hazards & Emergency Management minor.
Required Qualifications
- PhD in Criminology completed by date of appointment, ABDs will be considered.
- Evidence of Effective Teaching online and face-to-face (essential for our new online Criminology program).
- Evidence of a research agenda and professional involvement in the discipline
- Successful interview, teaching demonstration, reference checks and background checks.
Preferred Qualifications
- Commitment to high impact practices (eg. community based research, internships, service learning . . .)
