Job Summary

The Auburn University Libraries is seeking candidates for the position of Instructional Technology Specialist in the Adobe Creative Space and the Innovation & Research Commons. The Adobe Creative Space is an open-access learning area located in the Innovation & Research Commons dedicated to empowering students with creativity skills. The Innovation & Research Commons is located on the first floor of the RBD Library, offering high-end computing, multimedia assistance, 3D printing, virtual reality, printing and scanning, audio recording, and media equipment. The Innovation & Research Commons’ mission is to support Auburn University students and faculty in all disciplines with the technology and expertise needed to fulfill class assignments, create media, and complete research projects. The Innovation & Research Commons offers on-site helpdesk and consultation provided by full-time employees and student employees. Full-time staff provide classroom instruction on software upon request.

Reporting to the Adobe Program Manager / Instructional Technology Specialist IV, this position is responsible for ongoing technical support to faculty, staff, and students using the Adobe Creative Cloud and other multimedia software, hardware, the Adobe Creative Space and the Innovation & Research Commons audiovisual equipment, and other Innovation & Research Commons equipment including large format printing and scanning, 3D printing, and equipment for checkout.

The position supervises student employees and may include training them to provide service and assistance to patrons working with multimedia software, hardware, and other digital technologies.

The responsibilities for this position include but are not limited to support and instruction on graphic design software, photography, 2D and 3D printing, virtual reality, and video and audio editing software. This position provides consulting and instruction to individuals and groups and point-of-use assistance and offering guidance by recommending equipment and software and being familiar with policies and procedures.

This position involves supporting the Adobe Creative Space of the Innovation & Research Commons (50% time) and other areas (Innovation & Research Commons Equipment Checkout, Makerspace, Data area) within the Innovation & Research Commons (50% time).

Essential Functions

Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

1. Provide multimedia and graphic design technical support to Auburn students, faculty, and staff in their use of Adobe applications.

2. Train Auburn students, faculty, and staff in their use of Adobe Creative Cloud through email, chat, one-on-one training, or workshop instruction. Collaborate with other library and academic departments to support and promote student learning of Adobe applications.

3. Provide technical and educational assistance to patrons of the Innovation & Research Commons in the use of software, equipment and resources resulting in a high level of patron satisfaction.

4. Engage and educate Auburn students, faculty, and staff in their use of the Innovation & Research Commons.

5. Assist with developing, curating, and maintaining instructional content on the academic application of Adobe apps and the Innovation & Research Commons to support the learning needs of Auburn students, faculty, and staff.

6. Seek new curriculum related initiatives and ideas for the Adobe Creative Space and the Innovation & Research Commons through research, professional development, and potential site visits.

7. Seek professional development opportunities that are in line with higher level responsibilities by keeping up with relevant conferences and workshops, HRD course offerings, OIT seminars, online and other self-training, and to work on tasks and projects considered as higher-level responsibilities to attain timely promotion.

8. Perform other job-related duties and assignments as needed. Including but not limited to: Serving on Library working groups or committees. Collaborating with other Library / University bases projects, have willingness to take initiative on special projects that fit the mission of the Innovation & Research Commons, Library, and / or University, represent the University / Libraries at local, state, and national conferences and meetings.

The candidate must be self-motivated, able to work independently and collaboratively, and occasionally take the lead with certain projects and responsibilities as necessary. Participation in professional development and other relevant learning opportunities is vital. Ability to work in a changing, progressive environment. Excellent customer service skills. Willingness to learn. A commitment to an inclusive and diverse campus environment is required.

Minimum Technology Skills

Computer skills and proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud applications, Windows, Mac OS & iOS operating systems, Microsoft Office products.
Experience training others in multimedia and audiovisual software and equipment.
Experience with digital cameras, printers, scanners, and other digital equipment.

Minimum License and Certifications

None Required.

Desired Qualifications

Experience as a teacher or trainer.
Graphic design, photography, and/ or audio or video editing experience.
Experience supervising employees.
Adobe or other certification.
Familiarity with copyright law, fair use, and software licensing.
Multimedia and audiovisual software and hardware troubleshooting skills.
Experience using the following: 3D modeling and printing, virtual reality, data management software, scheduling software, HTML, CSS, web design platforms such as WordPress.
