Biological Scientist II
The Department of Neuroscience is seeking experienced candidates at least 4 years of experience working in a research lab with mouse models for a Biological Scientist II position. The incumbent will be responsible for managing many vital functions of the laboratory including directly being involved in orienting and training rotation and undergraduate students, including assisting in getting all the laboratory and safety paperwork completed. This responsibility also involves overseeing the routine maintenance of general laboratory operations.
In addition, duties will encompass managing large colonies of genetically manipulated mice, extensive genotyping of models, motor and cognitive phenotyping of murine models of neurodegenerative diseases, assisting in animal surgical procedures, and organization and maintenance of mouse colony records, database, tissue, and lab supplies.
The employee will also be responsible to help produce and provide primary neuronal cultures generated from the mice from the animal colonies.
The employee will be involved in biochemical preparation of recombinant proteins routinely used in the laboratory.
The employee will also participate in the histological and pathological studies of neurodegenerative tissues assessment obtained from the UF Neuromedicine brain bank. These responsibilities involve direct histological procedures but also overseeing the analysis done by other lab members.

Bachelor's degree in biology or a closely related field and three years of relevant experience ;or a Master's degree in biology or a closely related field and one year of relevant experience; Doctoral degree in biology or a closely related field.
A bachelor's degree in biology (or related discipline) and at least 4 years of experience working in a research lab with mouse models.
Direct, daily management experience with mice involving husbandry of large animal colonies (>400 cages).
Experience as a lab manager including general ordering of supplies, upkeep of colony records, and organization of large tissue repositories.
Experience performing protein or DNA analysis.
Experience with euthanasia and mouse brain and spinal cord extraction.
Knowledge of mouse biology and genetic backgrounds.
Extensive experience with PCR genotyping of mouse models.
