Job Title: Supervisor, Information Technology Infrastructure and Systems

Reports To: Associate Vice President, Information Technology

Positions Supervised: Administrator, Information Technology Systems; Infrastructure Lead, Information Technology Systems

Job Summary

The systems and infrastructure supervisor is responsible for overseeing the analysis, design, development, implementation and support of hardware, local and cloud-based applications.

Familiarity with the following technologies is a crucial part of the role: Microsoft Office 365, Azure, Veeam, VMware, SCCM, SAML Authentication, DNS, DHCP, and Active Directory.

Essential Job Functions and Performance Indicators

Job Responsibilities

  • Identifies important potential technologies and approaches to address current and future needs, evaluating their applicability and fit and providing recommendations
  • Provides day-to-day administration and future enhancements for the university’s IT system infrastructure and virtual platforms
  • Acts as project manager for systems and infrastructure projects
  • Ensures uptime, server management, system upgrades, monitoring and advanced support for all operating systems, virtualization and cloud-related issues
  • Provides proactive and reactive management, including migrations of existing systems as well as implementation of new systems
  • Delivers enterprise virtualization capability to install, configure and manage a highly available and scalable virtual infrastructure
  • Provides planning, installation, configuration and upgrade support for all infrastructure systems
  • Develops plans for deploying and administering virtual machines
  • Monitors implementations and ongoing operations of Lindenwood systems


Service Orientation

  • Collaborates with supervisor to conduct employee performance evaluations
  • Develops employee skill sets and provides professional growth opportunities


Communication, Collaboration and Teamwork

  • Works with direct reports to establish and track yearly performance goals
  • Manages human resources reporting for assigned staff, including but not limited to: timecards, overtime approval, requests for time off and other various personnel matters
  • Creates and broadcasts standard operating protocols


Planning, Organizing and Accountability

  • Formulates plans to meet system performance objectives
  • Assigns and directs work activities for team members


Initiative, Problem Solving and Decision Making

  • Prepares and provides input on data protection, access, authentication control, resource management, monitoring, high availability, fault tolerance and scalable virtualized infrastructure
  • Participates in enterprise testing for integration of proposed new technologies and develops test-related documentation
  • Prepares and enforces system protection procedures such as file permissions, user accounts and system availability
  • Installs and upgrades operating systems and software applications
  • Defines standards for cloud and virtualization technologies and determines best practices for usage

Required Qualifications – An equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered. Additional requirements may be designated by position.

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Minimum 3 years' related IT experience
  • Master’s degree preferred


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities – May be representative, but not all inclusive, of the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to perform this job competently.

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures
  • Practical experience in implementing and sustaining hypervisor installation, configuration, management and data protection of a high-availability virtualized environment
  • Ability to use good judgment, think critically and collaborate
  • Advanced knowledge of how IT processes can be leveraged to assist the university in upholding its mission
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Highly organized and able to direct multiple projects simultaneously
