We invite you to join us in imagining what our students, our community, and our country can become. Visit www.LaGuardia.edu to learn more.

LaGuardia Community College is seeking a senior leader who can advance and improve the College’s ability to help adult learners gain the education and skills to build their careers, and help businesses and organizations develop the talent they need. The Vice President of Adult and Continuing Education creates and manages employer partnerships, and works with funders, industry experts, faculty, unions, civic organizations, and others to create occupational training programs that prepare students for employment and career advancement and fulfill the workforce development mission of the college.

Reporting to the president and as a member of the President’s Cabinet, The Vice President of Adult and Continuing Education provides visionary, results-oriented leadership in delivering quality adult education and workforce training programs. The Vice President has primary responsibility for providing strategic leadership, fundraising, direction and management for all efforts related to non-credit workforce education and training. The Vice President takes a leadership role at the college in establishing and managing employer relations and creating innovative programs – often in cooperation with faculty and the Division of Academic Affairs – that serve our constituents through publicly and privately supported as well as tuition-based training and education.  The division serves between 30,000 and 35,000 individuals annually, and secures between $10 million and $15 million annually from foundations, government contracts, and employer payments and other sources.

The Vice President oversees a broad array of programs focused on adult career advancement, including one of the largest English as a Second Language programs in the Northeast and a comprehensive set of programs for adult basic education and high school equivalency certification; as well as a diverse array of corporate and business services, including the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses program, the NY Designs small business incubator, and a range of career skills training that includes Technology; Healthcare; Advanced Industrial & Manufacturing; Construction, Building Management & Sustainability; Business & Finance; American Sign Language - English Interpretation, and more.

The Vice President oversees a robust system of program management, assessment, and communication to provide for effective functioning of a large and complex division. The Vice President is responsible for ensuring that the division generates the revenue necessary to support its operation through grants, contracts, fee-for service-courses, and related revenue generating strategies. He/she is a member of the college President’s Cabinet and provides executive-level support in policymaking and the overall operation of the College. The Vice President uses the creative flexibility of the division to field-test new programs and strategies that lead to new academic programs, new lines of business services, and centers of innovation.

The preferred candidate will be an entrepreneurial, creative, strategic thinker with exceptional organizational, managerial, fundraising, and leadership skills. The new Vice President should be an accomplished, entrepreneurial leader with a high level of political acumen. Experience in the community college sector is a plus. The Vice President should be a sophisticated, experienced negotiator and builder of partnerships who can maneuver within a complex landscape including various city, state, and national initiatives.

The Vice President will also have the following responsibilities:

• Provide overall vision and supervision for the development and maintenance of quality educational programs that respond to workforce, economic, academic and community needs.
• Lead the fundraising and revenue generating efforts of the division to meet agreed-upon revenue and net operating profit goals.
• Collaborate with the Division of Academic Affairs to foster the development of non-credit to credit pathways.
Create robust partnerships with business, organizations, and funders to advance the economic and workforce development needs of the local community.
• Represent the College and the Division with CUNY, state, and city officials with regard to major Continuing Education issues.
• Work with all College areas to ensure full integration of Continuing Education into college policy and planning.
• Set policy and make decisions regarding major program, staff and fiscal issues and delegate operational follow-up, as appropriate.
• Stimulate and provide ongoing support for short and long-term fiscal and administrative planning for all areas of the Division that both responds to and anticipates community’s organizational, economic and service educational needs.
• Spearhead new program development across Divisional areas, create strong linkages within all programs and with credit areas, and assist in finding necessary financial support.
