Position Summary

The Associate Director of Student Support and Disability Services is responsible for the overall functioning and performance of the Office of Academic Support and the Office of Disability Services providing day-to- day leadership and direction with respect to policies, practices, systems and operations. The Associate Director of Student Support and Disability Services is tasked with providing support to students experiencing challenges in their personal and academic lives. The Associate Director of Student Support and Disability Services works to connect students to both on- and off-campus resources that meet their specific needs, provide advocacy and help in working with faculty and staff and in navigating campus procedures, and encourages the development of student coping skills, resiliency, and self-advocacy.

 

Essential Functions

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  • Lead the Office of Academic Support and the Office of Disability Services.
  • Provide individualized academic support services to students.
  • Coordinate, evaluate, and promote programs and resources for tutoring and non-cognitive support. Manage and enhance the suite of services on an ongoing basis to provide comprehensive academic support including study skills training, tutoring, computer and technology training, research skills training, and other services necessary for academic success.
  • Identify and conduct outreach to academically at-risk students.
  • Review and interpret all forms of disability documentation and conduct interactive interviews to determine reasonable accommodations for students with disabilities.
  • Process, evaluate, facilitate, and communicate student accessibility accommodations.
  • Collaborate with faculty, academic advisors, and other staff to manage and resolve student needs and concerns, interpret policies, and mediate complex and sensitive issues.
  • Maintain continuing assessment plan including relevant data analysis for academic support and disability services.
  • Provide disability awareness and accommodation facilitation training and educational programming.
  • Participate in online and face-to-face University Orientation programs.
  • Develop and facilitate strategic communication to advise students of resources and tools to enhance their success.
  • May serve as a procedural advisor for students involved in conduct proceedings.
  • Manage the Emergency Loan intake and process.
  • Assist the Dean of Students in conducting outreach and referral services for students in distress.
  • May functionally supervise Student Support Specialists.
  • With the community culture in mind, employee will serve on committees. This position will minimally serve as a member of the CARE Team and the Retention and Persistence committee.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Education and Experience Qualifications  

Required:

  • Master's degree in counseling, special education, disability studies, or student affairs/higher education administration or related field.
  • At least two years of experiencing interpreting clinical documentation for a wide range of disabilities and operationalizing into reasonable accommodations in the post-secondary learning environment.
  • Experience in supporting students from diverse backgrounds, and with a broad spectrum of disabilities.

Preferred:

  • Experience with student success/academic support, advising, counseling, or student advocacy services in the post-secondary environment
  • Student Affairs professional experience in working with graduate students in the healing arts and integrative health.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of different learning strategies to enhance student success
  • Knowledge of and experience working with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), ADA Amendments Act (ADAAA), Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, and Family Educational Rights Privacy Act (FERPA)
  • Functional knowledge of assistive technology
  • Alignment with the University’s mission and values.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, including presentation and facilitation skills.

  • May functionally supervise Student Support Specialists.
