General Summary/Purpose:

Responsible for the initial coordination, development and implementation of departmental training for security personnel in the areas of security performance, customer service, quality assurance, crime prevention and leadership.

Note:This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities:

Provide Security Training:

  • Develops and conducts basic and specialized training sessions such as those concerned with new employees, in-service, customer service, specific-on-the-job training, promotional development, crime prevention and leadership development.
  • Develops lesson plans and curriculum outlines for the training program.
  • Selects and develops teaching aids, such as training handbooks, demonstrative models, visual aids, reference works and crime prevention information.
  • Evaluates and records all program results and modifies program accordingly.
  • Provides a crime prevention orientation session for all personnel.
  • Instructs community residents in specialized training.

Ensures Compliance with the Joint Commission:

  • Maintains all employee training files in accordance with Joint Commission standards.
  • Monitors departments Performance Improvement Program.

Other Duties as Assigned:

  • Performs other related duties as required by the supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications (Mandatory):

  • Bachelor’s degree (preferably in Criminal Justice, Educational Development or other related field) required. Equivalent related experience may substitute for required education to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in teaching as well as a professional level of knowledge of crime prevention strategies/techniques and organizational training and development strongly desired.
  • Significant experience in a law enforcement agency preferred.

Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Thorough knowledge of security operations, crime prevention strategies and organizational training and program development.
  • Strong community relations commitment and involvement.
  • Strong analytical skills necessary to design/develop program content, evaluate training programs and ability to make modifications.
  • Must have excellent interpersonal skills necessary to conduct training classes, present crime prevention related information and interface with hospital staff.
  • Must be able to operate general office equipment, computers and related training equipment.
  • Ability to make decisions regarding work processes based on established guidelines.
  • Ability to prioritizes and organizes work to meet changing priorities.
  • Ability to participate in making community relations decisions for the department.
  • Ability to research and develop crime prevention training sessions in order to assist JHMI and JHU personnel.
  • Must be able to read and interpret various material in order to develop crime prevention sessions and various community activities for the greater Johns Hopkins community.

Working Conditions:

  • Works in a normal office environment where there are no physical discomforts due to temperature, noise, dust, etc.

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
