  • Description

    The Interim Director of Community Standards provides support and assistance to the vice president & dean of students and associate dean of students to contribute to the goals and vision of the Division of Student Affairs. The interim director for community standards provides direct service to students and consults with faculty, administrators and parents to respond to student issues; serves as the chief conduct officer regarding student behavioral matters, manages preventative programming efforts, conducts assessment related to conduct and leads/assists with projects as assigned.

    • Coordinates the Student Conduct System. Develops and implements policies related to student conduct expectations. Works closely with Residence Life and Housing regarding residence hall violations and SUPD regarding off-campus violations. Supervises and trains hearing officers. Prepares conduct statistics and reports. Consults with legal counsel. Manages Maxient on behalf of the University. Develops and presents educational workshops at orientation and other programs on student conduct. Assists the Associate Dean of Students in policy and protocol development.
    • Provides direct service to students and their parents, faculty and administrators who seek assistance from the Student Affairs Office. Serves as a member of the Student Affairs 24-hour on-call team. Provides crisis management support. Responsible for maintaining accurate notes regarding student interactions via Maxient and providing a status report each semester and as needed.

    • Develop and administer an assessment plan for community standards services.
    • Collaborates with the Title IX officer and Associate Dean of Students to address sexual misconduct, relationship violence and stalking education, prevention and response.
    • Performs other related duties as assigned.


    REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION:

    • Bachelor’s degree in higher education administration, counseling or related area. Masters degree preferred.
    • Demonstrated experience in student affairs in a college or university setting.
    • Demonstrated experience with student conduct.
    • Demonstrated experience with assessment of student affairs programs and services.
    • Demonstrated experience in problem-solving, decision making, conflict resolution, negotiation, counseling, referral techniques, and confidentiality.
    • Demonstrated experience and proficiency in the use of technology to include PC use, desktop publishing, MicrosoftOffice Suite, social media, student records system and internet use. Familiarity with Maxient electronic case management software and tracking systems.
    • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a diverse student population and with parents, faculty and other administrators.
    • Demonstrated ability to provide case management, including direct contact with students, family members and on and off-campus providers.
    • Ability to communicate, engage, and develop rapport with individuals of diverse cultural, social, and religious backgrounds, and varied age, gender, sexual orientation, gender expression, and military status.
    • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills as demonstrated by a pronounced sensitivity to the needs of a diverse student body; demonstrated experience working with diverse student, faculty, staff and community populations and proven ability to create an inclusive and welcoming campus environment.
    • Demonstrated ability to research, write analytical reports, and make presentations on issues related to students and student behavior.
    • Ability to speak formally and informally and make prepared and extemporaneous presentations to individuals and groups in order to provide information, explain procedures, investigate facts, and persuade others.
    • Knowledge of student security and privacy requirements including Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and Title IX. Experience and familiarity with case management database/software is preferred.
    • Ability to work evenings and weekends on-line, scheduled or on-call.
