The incoming dean will have the opportunity to lead the college and serve as a member of an engaged and innovative academic leadership team as the University implements a new strategic plan and decentralized, incentive-based budget model.

Position Function
The dean is responsible for planning, directing and coordinating the operational, personnel, budgetary, fundraising and student activities of the college and providing leadership and direction in the development and implementation of curricula and academic programming. The dean is expected to foster interdisciplinary and interprofessional collaborations within the college, across campus, and in the community; promote open, transparent, and inclusive communication; and facilitate strategic planning and goal development across the academic departments and units in unison with the campus’s broader strategic plan. The dean will serve as a visible and external advocate for the College, both on campus and within the local healthcare community, to sustain and deepen partnerships and generate new streams of revenue and health-related programs that support the teaching, research and service goals of the school.
Minimum Education
Advanced degree in the health professions or a relevant and related field.
Minimum Experience
A demonstrated track record of progressive administrative leadership experience in an academic setting, health profession or relevant and related field.
Academic record or equivalent experience that meets the requirements of the rank of professor in one of the units of the college.

• Proven ability to conceive, implement, and foster a shared vision; ability to imagine new possibilities for the college and develop strategic directions for the future as well as the organization-wide energy to execute and deliver on the vision.
• Record of commitment to regional and professional accreditation standards for the unit and demonstrated understanding of compliance and resource needs for accreditation and regulatory processes in the health professions
• Record of commitment to and leadership on issues of inclusion, diversity, equity, free speech, and the capacity and willingness to advance inclusive excellence
• Record of success managing a complex academic enterprise or demonstrable potential to do so; experience with appointment, evaluation, and promotion of personnel, processes, and procedures; prior success leading or supporting faculty recruitment, retention, and development efforts that enhance academic and inclusive excellence
• Sophisticated ability to manage resources and complex budgets in a decentralized environment, adjusting operational decisions based on college and unit variances; capacity to develop, implement, and administer policies and procedures that support institutional mission and goals
• Ability and willingness to play a signature role in fundraising efforts, with demonstrable success in, or potential for, securing external funding
• Ability to make timely, balanced, courageous, data-informed decisions
• Capacity for change management; agility, flexibility, tolerance for ambiguity, and experience managing organizational change

Department Information
The new College of Health ( COH ) opened in Fall 2016, bringing together multiple health-related disciplines that leverage may of the institution’s distinguished and highly ranked programs in health and wellness. The college’s seven academic units include: counseling psychology, social psychology, and counseling; kinesiology; military science ( ROTC ); nursing; nutrition and health science; social work; and speech pathology and audiology. The College also includes 14 clinics, centers, and labs. In Fall 2019, the COH opened a new $62.5 million Health Professions building, bringing faculty, students, and staff together in a state-of-the-art learning environment that embraces an innovative, collaborative, and contemporary learning environment.
