Position Primary Purpose and General Responsibilities

The Child Development Center ( CDC ) at Virginia Commonwealth University offers full-day care and developmentally-appropriate education for the families of VCU faculty, staff and students. The VCU CDC is one of just 12 centers in Richmond to hold a National Association for the Education of Young Children accreditation. The Child Development Center is committed to a safe, nurturing environment for its children, and prides itself on maintaining a close relationship with its families and communities.

The VCU School of Education’s Child Development center is seeking to hire a full-time Assistant Teacher to provide support to the Lead Teacher in the classroom. This includes assisting with day-to-day care of children (age ranges 16 months to 5 years).

Minimum Hiring Standards

- Excellent verbal/written communication and customer service skills required
- A professional attitude and ability to maintain confidentiality
- Demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize work
- Demonstrated ability to handle multiple tasks by stated deadlines
- Excellent computer skills and experience with Microsoft Office software
-Demonstrated ability to work independently
-Pleasant, positive and helpful service attitude
- Flexibility and and ability to shift priorities as needed
- Experience with scheduling
- A series of background checks, fingerprinting, and negative TB test
-High school diploma or equivalent
-Two years experience working in an early childhood program
-Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU

Preferred Hiring Standards

-One year experience working in a NAEYC -accredited center
-Child Development Associate’s degree ( CDA )
-Pediatric First Aid Certification
