The Department of Elementary Education, Early Childhood, and Special Education at Emporia State University invites applications for an assistant professor, tenure-track position. This position is based on the main campus in Emporia, Kansas, with occasional teaching responsibilities at our distance sites in the Kansas City or Andover areas. The appointment will commence on August 11, 2021.

Position Summary

The successful applicant will have education and related professional experience in the area of elementary mathematics education. The position will involve teaching undergraduate and/or graduate courses, including face-to-face and/or online courses. The position may also involve supervision of student teachers in area Professional Development Schools. Other teaching responsibilities may be assigned based on the education and professional experience of the candidate. Service and scholarship are required of the position.

Qualifications

Preference will be given to applicants with a doctorate in mathematics education, or a related doctorate with an emphasis in mathematics education. Experience teaching elementary mathematics education courses, mathematics content courses for elementary education majors, and experience supervising pre-service teachers in field experiences are preferred. A minimum of five years of successful elementary K-6 teaching experience; training in research-based approaches to teach and assess elementary mathematics; and outstanding collaboration skills are required.

Applicants in a doctoral program with a completion date identified are encouraged to apply. The successful applicant who does not possess the doctorate at the time of appointment will be hired as an instructor until successful completion of the degree.
