Faculty (Open Rank) and Director of Training Counseling Psychology PsyD Program
The Department of Psychological Science and Counseling at Austin Peay State University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in the Department of Psychological Science and Counseling and to serve as the Director of Training for a the PsyD program in Counseling Psychology that launched in Fall 2020. This is a dual appointment position with approximately 50% of time dedicated to teaching research, and service and 50% of time focused on responsibilities associated with the Director of Training. The program offers a concentration in Serving Military Personnel, Veterans, and their Families. The hiring rank is open and preference will be given to candidates who meet the requirements to join the department at the rank of Associate or Full Professor. The anticipated start date for this position is August 1, 2021.
The successful candidate hired for the Director of Training position will lead in the implementation of the PsyD program and will provide administrative oversight in preparing for APA accreditation. The program will submit a declaration of “Intent to Apply” for APA accreditation during the 2020-2021 academic year with a goal of applying for accreditation at the earliest possible opportunity.
A doctorate (PsyD or PhD) in Counseling Psychology (preferred) or Clinical Psychology from an APA-accredited program along with with full-time experience providing instruction in a doctoral program are required. Highly qualified applicants will have knowledge of the practitioner-scholar training model as well as the competencies established for Counseling Psychology training programs. Qualified applicants will have prior Director of Training experience or evidence of program leadership and administration along with experience in assisting in the preparation a self-study for APA accreditation. Applicants must hold licensure as a psychologist (HSP) or be license-eligible in TN. If license-eligible, must be fully licensed in TN within 1 year of hire.
The person hired for this position will have a unique opportunity to help build and shape an innovative, forward-looking doctoral training program in health service psychology. Teaching, practice, and research areas are open, however experience with military service members, veterans, and families is strongly desired.
All APSU faculty are expected to be engaged in service and scholarship activities. Strong candidates will demonstrate evidence of potential to secure external funding for research and/or community-based programs. The Department of Psychological Science and Counseling is a diverse, dynamic, and collegial environment that in addition to the PsyD program, is home to a large undergraduate program in psychological science, a Master of Science program in Industrial and Organizational Psychology (MSIO), a Master of Science program in Counseling, and a graduate certificate program in Academic Advising. Some examples of recent and ongoing college collaborations include a grant-funded research and intervention project aimed at supporting student veteran transitions to college, a grant-funded project focused on student mental health and wellness, a juvenile justice mentorship project, and a working group focusing on trauma-informed pedagogy.
APSU maintains a strong relationship with Ft. Campbell and other local agencies that provide services to military personnel, veterans, and their families. Nearly 25% of the student population at APSU is military-connected. As a result, the PsyD program faculty and students will be afforded rich clinical and research opportunities related to serving military and military-connected populations.
