NONTENURE TRACK (OPEN RANK) INSTRUCTIONAL FACULTY IN BIOSTATISTICS

At a time when public health has never been more important, Temple University’s College of Public Health is working to solve health’s complexities for a better tomorrow. As one of the largest colleges of public health in the country, we are home to faculty who specialize in 17 health disciplines and conduct novel research and prepare researchers, practitioners and educators to collaborate across disciplines to understand community needs, create evidence-based solutions, and deliver effective, compassionate care. We invite applications for an enthusiastic instructor to teach undergraduate and graduate-level courses in the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics starting January 2021.

Qualifications. We seek collegial faculty who have an earned doctorate in biostatistics or a related discipline. Because the department offers courses for students in multiple disciplines (e.g., nursing, kinesiology), successful candidates should be skilled in teaching quantitative courses to students with a range of aptitude. Online teaching experience is highly desirable. We value diversity and seek individuals committed to inclusive practices in education. While Temple University offers excellent professional development in teaching, this position also provides collaborative research opportunities. Namely, instructors may also participate in the Biostatistics Core operated by the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics. The Biostatistics Core offers comprehensive biostatistical consultation and computational services to researchers in the College of Public Health and throughout Temple University as well as those in other institutions. Salary and benefits are competitive and commensurate with credentials and experience. Rank is open with faculty hired at the rank of assistant, associate or full professor on the nontenure instructional track dependent on qualifications.

The Department. The Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics combines curiosity with rigorous, applied methods that lead us to compelling questions and impactful results to improve public health. We have 15 faculty members who conduct research in several areas, such as mediation, causal inference, missing data and measurement error, semiparametric regression, latent variable modeling, and psychometrics as well as behavioral and chronic disease epidemiology, cancer prevention and control, perinatal and reproductive epidemiology, substance use disorders, HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis, and the impact of environmental exposures on waterborne diseases, cognitive decline, cardiovascular disease, and cancer. Our collaborators include, but are not limited to Fox Chase Cancer Center, Temple’s Katz School of Medicine, Temple’s Health System, other health systems, community health centers, and local and state public health agencies. The Department operates the Biostatistics Core, which engages in collaborative research and offers comprehensive biostatistical consultation and computational services.  The Department annually enrolls ~1,400 students with diverse backgrounds in our courses and has >90 graduate students in 5 programs – PhD in Epidemiology; MPH degrees in Epidemiology, Applied Biostatistics, and Environmental Health; and MS in Epidemiology. The Department contributes to the College’s nationally recognized BS in Public Health and administers a minor in Applied Epidemiology.

The College. Devoted to an interprofessional environment for academic programming and research, the College of Public Health, a CEPH-accredited school of public health, is a constellation of academic units of public health, social work and health profession disciplines, enrolling 4,300 students. The College’s research focuses on social, behavioral, and environmental inquiries, medical/health interventions, and basic science and is sponsored by the National Institutes of Health, National Science Foundation, Department of Defense, and other major funders.  The College has recently launched a new Center focused on Community Engaged Research and Practice. We are harnessing the collective energies of our clinical disciplines through an emerging, innovative framework for interprofessional education.

The University. Temple is an urban, research-intensive Carnegie R1 university located in historic and culturally rich Philadelphia, the nation’s 6th largest city. The city was ranked 3rd by the New York Times as a world tourist destination. The National Science Foundation ranks Temple among the top 100 universities in the country for research expenditures. Temple is the 6th largest provider of professional education in the nation and includes Schools of Medicine, Pharmacy, Podiatry, Law, and Dentistry and research centers including CPH’s Center for Obesity Research and Education.
