Chapman University’s Attallah College of Educational Studies seeks applications for part-time lecturers to teach one or two leadership studies courses in its undergraduate Leadership Studies Minor, effective Spring 2021.

Qualifications

Doctorate in Leadership, Organizational Behavior, Education/Educational Administration, Learning Sciences, or a related field is preferred. However, candidates with a master’s degree (MA/MS/MBA) and/or extensive experience in K12 or higher education may be considered.

Additional qualifications:

1. Prior experience teaching leadership or leadership-related courses, preferred.
2. Current knowledge and/or experience in leadership development
3. Expertise and facility with technology, including remote instruction (Canvas, Zoom platforms) due to current COVID-19 circumstances
4. Experience in inclusive education and differentiated instruction
5. Demonstrated commitment to promoting diversity, inclusion, and multicultural competence in education and must be willing to contribute to the University Diversity and Inclusion plan
6. Experience teaching, mentoring, or supervising in leadership development
7. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively orally and in writing
8. Strong commitment to student learning, quality teaching and academic excellence
9. Demonstrated ability to motivate and teach students of diverse learning styles and backgrounds
10. Appreciation and respect for student role, contribution, and responsibility in the learning process
11. Commitment to personalized education

Responsibilities

Classes are generally held during daytime hours (8a-4p) Monday through Friday; limited classes are held after 4p. Different courses may have openings each semester, please review the Undergraduate Catalog at http://catalog.chapman.edu and specify which courses you are most interested in and qualified to teach (all courses are found in the catalog under Attallah College’s section; courses being sought have the LEAD course prefix).

The lecturer will collaborate with the program coordinator to design the assigned course section from existing course syllabi and outlines, with consultation and mentorship.

Responsibilities each week include preparing course lesson plans, coordinating class materials, holding office hours, and grading assignments submitted by the students. The lecturer must be available to attending instructor meetings periodically held throughout the semester as well as a half day orientation at the beginning of the semester. Finally, as a nationally-accredited program, all part time lecturers are responsible for providing data on all accreditation-related assignments, replying to all college surveys, submitting requested updated information, and maintaining open and ongoing communication with Chapman University faculty, staff and students through assigned Chapman email throughout the duration of employment at Chapman University.
