Research Data Analyst

General Summary/Purpose

The Research Data Analyst is needed to assist in the management and analysis of The Pneumococcal Serotype Replacement and Distribution Estimation (PSERENADE) project. This person will support the management and technical analyses of the PSERENADE project. The Analyst willmake important design and data collection methodology recommendations and have primary responsibility for data collection, cleaning, management analysis, interpretation, and reporting. This includes the development and testing of data collection tools, recommendations as to appropriate evaluation measures, and managing the actual data. They will contribute to determining project needs, delegating tasks across team members, conducting data analyses, and ensuring efficient completion of project goals and deliverables.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

Epidemiologic data analysis

  • Develop data analysis plans with support from PIs. This includes developing data collection and analysis methodology, including defining data requirements, data sources, and proper data collection procedures such ascomputerprograms, appropriate data fields, databases.
  • Develop and implement data collection quality assurance procedures to ensure validity and reliability of study results.
  • Manage, track, organize, and review incoming data from surveillance sites and published literature.
  • Abstract data from published papers.
  • Manage databases, data cleaning, and exploratory data analyses.
  • Conduct epidemiologic analyses and present findings to team.
  • Generate visually appealing tables and figures for presentations and manuscripts.
  • Draft presentations, manuscripts, and reports with support from PIs.

    Project management:
  • Interact with project team members to ensure well-organized and efficient development of project deliverables and management of project tasks.
  • Assist with organizing and leading meetings, conference calls, or other communications between team members.
  • Conduct/review weekly recurring literature searches as needed.
  • Respond to ad hoc project management and analytical requests as needed.

Minimum Qualifications(Required)

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
  • Three (3) years of related experience.

    Additional education (Master's level) may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by theJHU Equivalency Formula:18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for the required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job. *

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in public health, infectious disease, health sciences or related field.
  • Understanding of pneumococcal disease and vaccines.
  • Ability to use programs that produce high quality graphics to visually display data (R, Tableau).
  • Demonstrated interest or experience in global health and vaccine epidemiology.

  • Ability to travel domestic and internationally up to 10% of time as necessary.
  • Excellent time management skills with ability to multi-task and coordinate across multiple projects with tight deadlines.
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to “manage-up”.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to provide and receive feedback from colleagues at all levels.
  • Demonstrated strong epidemiological/ analytic skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to write manuscripts and reports.
  • Fluency with Microsoft Office software applications including PowerPoint, Word, Excel and at least one statistical package (STATA, SAS, R, etc.).

Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
