Director of Lawyering (Full-time, Long-Term Faculty Appointment on the Faculty Council)



The University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law seeks a highly-qualified candidate to direct our new Lawyering Program. This position is a long-term contract appointment (non-tenure track) and sits on the Faculty Council, with voting rights on all matters except tenure-related promotions. The position will begin July 1, 2021.

Consistent with Maryland Carey Law's tradition of integrating doctrine, theory, and practice, the Lawyering curriculum's six-credit sequence provides students with a strong foundation in the analytical, oral and written communication, ethical, and other professional skills essential in the legal profession.

Responsibilities

The responsibilities of the Director of Lawyering include: designing and implementing the curriculum for the Lawyering Program; developing case simulations and related exercises, in collaboration with other faculty; supporting and collaborating with other faculty teaching in the Lawyering program; supervising the law school's Legal Writing Center; and teaching Lawyering. This position will also integrate professional responsibility concepts into the Lawyering curriculum and design other professionalism initiatives and workshops for law students, as part of the law school's Moser Professionalism Initiative.

Qualifications :

Minimum Qualifications: J.D.; demonstrated record of teaching excellence; ability and commitment to develop and lead the Lawyering Program; collaborative and innovative spirit; and legal practice experience required. Preferred qualifications include experience teaching legal writing and scholarly publication record.

Given the teaching and administrative responsibilities involved with the position, this professor will be appointed and evaluated under the law school's long-term appointment standards (non-tenure) as a Law School Professor, Law School Associate Professor, or Law School Assistant Professor.

Compensation

Salary will be commensurate with experience. Maryland Carey Law offers faculty a competitive compensation and benefits package.
