Job Summary
Conduct independent research with the focus aligned to Prof. Kris Dorsey’s research programs in flexible sensors and soft robotics and guide undergraduate researchers in carrying out related work. The area of research that the postdoctoral researcher would contribute to is an investigation of origami metamaterial substrates towards tuning the properties of flexible mechanical sensors.
Essential Functions
Computer simulation (60%)
· Use of finite element analysis software
· Use of MATLAB
Literature review and writing (30%)
· Literature review of recently published relevant work
· Preparing archival publications
Synchronous, collaborative work (10%)
· Progress meetings with PI
· Collaboration and mentoring undergraduate students
Minimum Qualifications (knowledge, skills, education, experience, certifications, licenses)
Ph.D. in electrical engineering, electrical and computer engineering, mechanical engineering, materials science, or a closely related field is required.
Skills & Preferred Qualifications
Excellent written and oral communication. Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with undergraduates. Desire to be a member of an interdisciplinary team and conduct research at a women’s liberal arts college. Experience using finite element analysis software (Comsol, ANSYS), 3D modeling software (Solidworks, Fusion 360), and basic programming skills.
