Job Summary

The Assistant Director of Student Involvement for Student Government Advising and Programming supervises the Coordinator of Student Involvement for Programming and provides oversight and advisement to all branches of FGCU Student Government.

Job Duties

Essential Job Duties

Typical duties include but are not limited to:

Supervise the Coordinator of Student Involvement for Student Programming, supporting Programming Board, Homecoming, Weeks of Welcome and various campus wide programmatic initiatives.

Provides oversight and advisement of FGCU Student Government branches and their members.

Oversees the Student Government election process.

Provides fiscal management and administrative oversight of Student Government budgets. Ensures fiscal policies and procedures are implemented in accordance with governing documents and university/state procedures.

Provides advisement and mentorship regarding any Student Government programmatic initiatives and the allocation of the annual Student Government budget.

Creates, develops, and implements comprehensive and systematic leadership training for all Student Government branches to prepare students for leadership and responsibilities within and beyond the university.

Assists Student Government in promoting the advancement of student issues.

Ensures solid recruitment plan and the ongoing development of experienced leaders seeking involvement within Student Government.

Oversee the development, administration and analysis of program/initiative assessments. Preparing and statistical, analytical, and narrative reports to guide decision making and program/initiative improvement.

Coordinates and provides oversight for all purchasing activities including requisitions and p-cards and the review of expenditures.

Collaborates with other campus departments and services to support Student Government, programming initiatives and student issues.

Ensures constitution, finance code, and all governing documents are updated and in compliance.

Collaborates with other offices to ensure awareness and advocacy of student issues.

Additional Job Description

Required Qualifications

Master’s degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization.

Two years of professional full-time experience in Student Affairs at a higher education institution in student organizations, student programming, fraternity & sorority life, leadership development or a related area.

Two years of graduate assistant and/or intern experience may count as one year of full-time experience.

Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience, and/or certifications may be considered.

Experience with personal computers and proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook) and desktop publishing.

Preferred Qualifications

Four years of professional full-time experience in Student Affairs at a higher education institution in student government, student organizations, student programming, fraternity & sorority life, leadership development or a related area.

Experience directly advising a Student Government Association or similar student organization.

Experience working with student programming boards and/or experience organizing large programmatic efforts.

Experience with the Campus Labs (Anthology) platform.

Experience hiring and supervising professional and/or student employees.

Demonstrated ability as an equity-minded practitioner committed to racial equity, diversity and inclusion. Experience supporting racially minoritized students

Experience with Banner, Workday, or similar software systems.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Knowledge of or ability to learn Florida and constitutional law concerning student fees, risk management, freedom of speech, freedom of association, and student governance.

Knowledge of student union philosophy and operations.

Knowledge of student involvement theories and student development objectives and how they pertain to student success and persistence.

Knowledge of budget control principles, practices and procedures in alignment with state and university guidelines and codes.

Knowledge of Human Resource practices related to recruiting, hiring, and supervising full-time A&P and student OPS staff.

Knowledge of FERPA.

Knowledge and proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook) applications.

Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.

Ability to develop and deliver training presentations and programs.

Skill in active learning by understanding the implications of new information for both current and future problem-solving and decision-making.

Ability to work collaboratively and build strategic relations with colleagues, coworkers, constituents, and volunteers.

Ability to interact in a professional manner with a diverse group of staff, faculty, students, and the community in a service-oriented environment.

Ability to think critically and creatively, have a high standard of integrity, and be motivated to incorporate best practices into the organizational structure.

Ability to work independently and follow through on assignments.

Ability to plan, implement, and evaluate new systems and programs.

Ability to operate personal computers with proficiency and learn new applications and systems.

Salary Range

$48,000 - $51,000
