About the Position:
University Advancement serves Cal State Fullerton by building and strengthening relationships with the communities we serve to encourage advocacy, investment and support of the University, its mission, goals and programs in support of student and alumni success. We are seeking an exceptional individual to join our team as the Associate Vice President, Government and Community Relations (Administrator III). The ideal candidate in this role should have a positive attitude, an active, energetic mind, and a leadership style that is characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to diversity, openness, flexibility, integrity, and kindness.

Reporting to the Vice President for University Advancement, the Associate Vice President, Government and Community Relations provides collaborative leadership in the establishment and maintaining strategic relationships with elected officials, government agencies, and nonprofit/community/business organizations to advance the University's educational mission and its role as an intellectual and cultural center for our region. Leads broad-based advocacy at the local, regional, state, and federal level to establish partnerships, establish and grow funding streams, and demonstrate the University's integral role for the region. Communicates and collaborates with campus colleagues to identify funding needs and partnership opportunities that support faculty-student collaborative research to enhance degree completion initiatives. Hires, trains, supervises, evaluates, and provides professional development opportunities to assigned staff to ensure effective implementation of departmental strategies and meets established goals. Other duties as assigned.


Essential Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university in a related field. Ten years of progressively responsible experience in government and community relations. Evidence of the ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with diverse internal and external constituencies. Ability to understand and advance the University's brand strategy. Superior written and verbal communication skills in English. Ability to analyze complex situations accurately and adopt effective courses of action. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and an array of administrative computing systems on a Windows platform.

A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.


Preferred Qualifications:
In depth knowledge and understanding of higher education policies in California. Experience in hiring, training, supervising, and evaluating staff.
