Kennesaw State University is now accepting applications for a 12-month, tenured, administrative faculty position as the Assistant or Associate Vice President (AVP) for Faculty Affairs reporting in the Office of the Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs. The AVP for Faculty Affairs provides leadership in supporting and strengthening the Kennesaw State University (KSU) faculty by developing and implementing sound policies, practices, and programs regarding faculty recruitment, appointments/hiring, performance reviews (e.g., tenure, promotion, pre-tenure, and post-tenure reviews), leaves, and terminations. The candidate will have a record of effective managerial leadership, clear communication abilities, and demonstrated support for diversity, inclusivity, and shared governance. This position is available with a preferred start date of January 1, 2021.

Responsibilities include:

• Ensures compliance with relevant Board of Regents (BoR), State, and Federal laws and policies relating to faculty by working closely with the Human Resources, Institutional Research, the Office of Diversity and Inclusion, the Office of Institutional Equity, the Office of Legal Affairs, and others as necessary.
• Serves as a liaison between and among the KSU faculty, KSU faculty senate, KSU administration, and the BoR relating to all faculty matters and other tasks as assigned by the Provost or their designate.
• Provides leadership and innovative approaches to faculty recruitment and retention.
• Advances KSU’s commitment to faculty diversity and shared governance.
• Organizes professional development in collaboration with The Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL) designed to mentor and facilitate the success of faculty and administrators.
• Serves as a campus resource addressing faculty and/or chair queries from faculty, department chairs, and deans.
• Serves as the Office of the Provost’s liaison to the Chairs’ and Directors’ Assembly (CDA).
• Leads the process of continuous review of university faculty policies and procedures.
• Works closely with the Provost/Senior VPAA and other members of the Provost’s leadership team on various ad hoc projects.
• Supervises appropriate staff members in the Office of the Provost/Senior VPAA.
• Performs other duties as assigned by the Provost or their designee.

Required qualifications include:

• Earned doctorate in a discipline taught at KSU as well as a record of success commensurate with the rank of a tenured full professor.
• A record of successful academic leadership including a minimum of five years of academic administrative experience having served as a department chair/director, dean or similar such role.
• Demonstrated ability to set priorities, effectively communicate them to others, and make decisions in a timely fashion.
• Demonstrated commitment to faculty diversity and shared governance.
• Evidence of ability to formulate, interpret, and communicate policies and procedures related to the functioning of Faculty Affairs and to seek additional guidance when needed.
• Demonstrated success addressing faculty concerns and issues associated with the position (i.e., faculty hiring/recruiting, performance reviews, promotion and tenure).
• Prior experience supervising faculty, including responsibility for administrating faculty annual and promotion/tenure reviews.
• Strong interpersonal skills.
• Detail oriented.

Preferred qualifications include:

• Prior experience serving in an administrative role at a large institution.
• A record of increasing responsibility and significant accomplishments in university leadership.
