Scope of Job:
Plans, organizes and directs all aspects and the day to operations of the Center for Innovation and Commercialization (CIC).


Description of Duties:
• Plans, directs and reviews the activities and operations of the CIC and provides strategic vision.
• Provides an annual strategic plan update to the COBE Dean, UTRGV Administration, and the served community.
• Markets the CIC’s programs and facilities to the community and prospective client firms.
• Coaches client business start-ups toward successful admission to the CIC’s incubator.
• Works with the CIC’s advisory board in the selection of businesses to admit to the incubator.
• Provides final approval for CIC client admissions, exits, and graduations.
• Identifies funding opportunities for client firms.
• Develops stakeholder/sponsor financial support for the Center.
• Works with other UTRGV Colleges to stimulate faculty and student participation.
• Enforces CIC agreements, collects fees, and keeps appropriate financial records.
• Collects success metric data to provide ongoing program evaluation.
• Promotes organization policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal rules and regulations.
• Engages in budget-planning, grant oversight, and policy development.
• Develops objectives and activities, including short and mid-range plans based on department goals and university mission.
• Monitors the formulation and coordination of projects or event specifications, requirements for contracts and proposals, and associated documents.
• Compiles and submits reports as required by management, state, local, and federal regulatory agencies.
• Develops, cultivates, and maintains working relationships with internal/external departments/agencies and other organizations.
• Participates in various committees, professional training, industry conferences, and conventions.
• Performs other duties as assigned.


Supervision Received:
General supervision from assigned supervisor.

Supervision Given:
Direct supervision of assigned staff.

Required Education:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university.

Preferred Education:
Master’s degree from an accredited university.

Licenses/Certifications:
None.

Required Experience:
Five (5) years of experience in a related field, including supervisory experience.

Equipment:
Use of standard office equipment.


Working Conditions:
Needs to be able to successfully perform all required duties. Office Environment; some travel and weekend work is required.


Other:
Exceptional planning and organizational skills. Ability to communicate effectively and appropriately with diverse populations. Must be able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously. Must have ability to work under pressure, solve problems, and negotiate.
