The Department of Health and Nutritional Sciences in the College of Education and Human Sciences is inviting applications for a 9-month, full-time, benefits-eligible Instructor position in the CAAHEP-accredited Exercise Science program. This position is supervised by the Department Head of Health and Nutritional Sciences. The appointment date is January, 2021.

As an Instructor in the Department of Health and Nutritional Sciences, this individual will work collaboratively with other faculty to foster the mission of the department and college. Specifically, the role of this faculty member is to teach undergraduate courses in exercise science and participate in service responsibilities at the department and university level. Courses assigned to this position may include but are not limited to EXS 400 Exercise Testing and Prescription, EXS 367 Health and Human Performance, EXS 494 Internship, EXS 496 Field Experience, EXS 455 EKG and Stress Testing, and EXS 480 Certification Exam Preparation (American College of Sports Medicine Exercise Physiologist).

  • Teach courses (lecture and laboratory) in the Exercise Science program.
  • Plan and organize instructional materials to meet course objectives and program needs.
  • Actively participate in curriculum development and revision.
  • Actively participate in departmental recruiting and retention activities.
  • Participate in a variety of departmental, campus and college-wide programs, activities, and committees.
  • Prepare and submit student information to Program Coordinator and/or Department Head.


  • Masters in Exercise Science or related field prior to appointment date.
  • 1-3 years of experience in Exercise Science education.
  • Effective written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Effective organizational skills.
  • Sponsorship is not available for this position, must be eligible to work in the United States.


  • Previous experience with Exercise Testing, Strength and Conditioning, and Group Exercise Instruction.
  • Ability to develop collaborative relationships with fitness community for student internship placement.
  • Professional Certifications related to position description.

The Department of Health and Nutritional Science consists of undergraduate and graduate programs in Athletic Training, Community and Public Health, Exercise Science, Physical Education Teacher Education, Sports and Recreation Management, and Nutrition and Dietetics.
