The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Oakland University invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor of Mathematics in discrete mathematics, beginning Fall Semester 2021. Applicants with speciality in all areas of discrete mathematics, including but not limited to combinatorics, algebra and discrete optimization, are encouraged to apply. The successful candidate should have the necessary training to teach courses cross-listed to computer science such as design and analysis of algorithms, and theory of computation. Responsibilities of this position include teaching, research, contribution to the Department's programs and other services. For this appointment, candidates must have a Ph.D. in Mathematics or Applied Mathematics, or a closely related discipline in discrete mathematics (or its requirements completed) by August 15, 2021.The primary selection criteria will be an applicant's potential for effective teaching (at both undergraduate and graduate level), quality research, and the potential of effective service to the department, the university and the profession. Amongst applicants who are found highly qualified with respect to these criteria, preference will be given to those who can fulfill the department's current instructional needs in discrete mathematics and those with strong research collaboration potential with members of the Department of Mathematics and Statistics. Candidates must demonstrate experience with or a commitment to diversity and inclusion.Due to the pandemic, we may use a non-traditional interviewing process, and the successful candidate may be expected to teach online courses depending on the university's response to this pandemic.Ph.D. in Mathematics or Applied Mathematics, or a closely related discipline in discrete mathematics (or its requirements completed) by August 15, 2021.
