Job Description:

The Assistant Director of Health Professions Advising plays a critical role in the Health Professions Advising (HPA) team. This position supports the holistic development of students pursuing a career in a health profession through one-on-one advising meetings, email and telephone communication, and HPA sponsored events. The Assistant Director interacts frequently with prospective students and families, current students, Rhodes faculty and staff, community members, and alumni in a variety of settings. Some evening and weekend work required.

Duties include but are not limited to:
  • Build effective relationships and coalitions between and among multiple stakeholders, including faculty and staff, administrators, students, and alumni. Work effectively with all students and parents from various backgrounds and academic experiences, including prospective students and families, current students, and alumni.
  • Serve as HPA liaison to Student Life, various community partners, and all health professions programs other than medicine.
  • Oversee the college's nursing partnerships and explores other early acceptance opportunities.
  • Hire, train, and supervise HPA student workers.
  • Work with the Director to hire, train, and supervise HPA Ambassadors.
  • Serve as advisor to two student organizations, Health Professions Society and Minority Association of Pre-Med Students.
  • Coordinate HPA's signature lecture series focused on healthcare disparities.
  • Work with Director to develop, coordinate, and present programming including workshops, group advising, and community events.
  • Conduct mock interviews and provide personal statement review for in-cycle applicants.
  • Provide advising for first- and second-year students interested in pursuing a health professions career as well as all non-med juniors, seniors, and alumni. Oversees the application process for all non-med students.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed advising notes for each student and track appointments and other student contacts on a weekly basis.
  • Stay current on admissions requirements, trends in healthcare, and best practices in advising.
  • Collect, compile, and analyze HPA student data including acceptance and matriculation rates for applicants.


Job Requirements:
  • Masters degree required.
  • Three to five years of experience in higher education, counseling, non-profit, or secondary education with emphasis on advising and program management.
  • Experience advising and mentoring college students interested in health professions preferred.
  • Must have excellent organizational, written, verbal, and presentation skills.
