Assistant Professor, Department of Neurology
The Department of Neurology at the University of Colorado, Anschutz Medical Campus is seeking to recruit dynamic candidates to expand its clinical and basic science research programs within our Neurohospitalist section.
The position is located at the University of Colorado - Anschutz Medical Campus. We are the premier research university in Colorado, serving more than 30,000 undergraduate, graduate and health professions students in Denver, Aurora and online and awarding nearly 4,000 degrees each year. The renowned researchers and award-winning faculty offer more than 100-degree programs through 13 colleges and schools. In the 2017-2018 fiscal year, the University’s School of Medicine was awarded more than $516.2 million in research grants and contracts. The Anschutz Medical Campus includes over 5 million square feet of research, educational and clinical space on 227 acres.
The Neurohospitalist group is responsible for practicing and teaching General Neurology and Stroke and will be integrated into the Universities nationally renowned academic hospital medicine group. The Neurohospitalist section is comprised of 10 Faculty, 6 Advanced Practice Providers, fellows, and professional support staff.
The duties in this faculty position will include teaching, research and service responsibilities.
Teaching activities including attending neurology services, leading teaching conferences and training medical students, residents, and fellows. In particular, the position will provide the following teaching:
- Medical Students:
- IDPT 7041 Neurologic Care, including Practice Based Learning Sessions in rotation (classroom)
- Neurology Block regarding Intracranial Hemorrhages (classroom)
- Neurology Rotation to third year students (bedside)
- Sub-I Neurology Rotation to fourth year students (bedside)
- Neurology Residents
- Adult Neurological Emergencies Block (classroom)
- Professor Rounds and Stroke Meeting (classroom)
- General Neurology, Stroke Neurology, Neurology Consults Rotations (bedside)
- Continuity Clinic (General Neurology) (bedside)
- Vascular Neurology and Neurohospitalist Fellows
- Fellow Didactics’ Lecture (classroom)
- Inpatient Services (bedside)
- Fellows’ Clinic (bedside)
Clinical duties include time on the Neurology hospitalist in-patient service. This position will be part of a 10-person provider group that will have primary responsibility at the faculty level for the in-patient/outpatient services, in-patient/outpatient consultations, telestroke/teleneurology, and emergency consultation of the Neurology Department and the Cardiology Department. While on the Neurohospitalist service, obligations will include supervision of residents and medical students, supervision of inpatient procedures, and teaching of the house-staff and students.
Research activities include participation in current research or developing individual projects with the assistance of established and highly efficient research coordinators group; our Neurology department has approximately 120 ongoing clinical trials and various opportunities for basic science research.
Administrative responsibilities will include data entry into hospital systems, development of critical pathways, committee work and projects aimed at improving the specialty and department mission. It is assumed the bulk of this non-clinical time will be spent working toward the production of scholarship activities. Attendance at meetings and educational events of the department and specialty programs is expected. Other duties may be assigned as need arises.
- State of Colorado medical licensure or eligibility
- 60 months of training, including 4-year Residency in Neurology and 1-year Fellowship in Vascular Neurology.
- Completion of a background investigation
