Job Description



PURPOSE AND SCOPE:

The Web Designer II utilizes professional skills to accomplish assignments within an area of functional specialty. Works closely with clients to develop effective web end products to meet their needs. Develops scope of design and web-content-based projects, conducts needs analysis with clients, and designs and implements communication strategies for web-based products.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Acting as a Project Lead, meets with clients to determine the scope, timeline, concepts and objectives of the project
  2. Uses the college’s content management system (CMS) to author, edit, and update web content
  3. Works in an oversight role for content authors
  4. Determines site architecture and structure
  5. Works independently or in a lead position with a cross-functional team of designers, incumbent will conceptualize, design, and create web-based projects for internal and external audiences (may include links from LSC-wide, local, regional, and national media placement)
  6. Makes project revisions as needed and finalizes approvals for ultimate deliverables
  7. Creates HTML emails for internal and external audiences
  8. Responsible for oversight of production and external vendors to ensure that project expectations and deadlines are met
  9. Responsible for meeting project deadlines and using independent judgment to prioritize work
  10. May focus on one or more specific types of projects, including but not limited to images, content updates, content edits, site architecture, user interfaces, user experiences, and digital brand management
  11. Works with vendors, clients, the Marketing/Communications team, and Server team to advise on efficient, cost effective practices
  12. Responsible for other reasonable related duties as assigned


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Working knowledge of HTML, CSS, jQuery, and JavaScript
  • W3C accessibility standards
  • Working knowledge of the Bootstrap framework
  • Experience working with content management systems (CMS) and FTP
  • Knowledge of visual hierarchies general layout principles and basic aesthetic design concepts
  • Knowledge of a variety of code editing tools such as Dreamweaver and Sublime Text
  • Flexibility with prioritizing deadlines and managing expectations
  • Strong attention to accuracy and detail
  • Ability to adapt to changing technology and acquire new skills
  • Ability to work in a fast pace environment and meet deadlines
  • Excellent customer service skills




PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee sits comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items, such as papers, books, or small parts; or driving an automobile. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.



WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Equipment used includes, PC workstation running on a LAN in a Microsoft Windows environment, calculator, phone and other general office equipment
  • Interface with internal and external contacts as needed to carry out the functions of the position
  • Work is performed in a climate-controlled office with minimal exposure to safety hazards


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associate’s degree and at least 3 years of related work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • At least 5 years of related work experience
  • Search Engine Optimization Certified Professional (SEO)
  • GOOGLE Analytics Certification
  • User Experience (UX) Certification
  • Certified Usability Analyst


Salary

Hiring salary range is $64,826 to $74,549

Lone Star College provides a hiring salary range for all posted full-time non-faculty positions. Where your salary offer would fall in that range is determined by your related experience and education. Should you receive an offer of employment from Lone Star College, the resume submitted in the application process will be utilized to calculate your salary offer. The information outlined below will provide the Office of Human Resources everything needed to determine an accurate starting salary.
