Director of Myatt Center for Diversity, Inclusion, and Multicultural Education

 

The University of New Haven, located in West Haven, CT, seeks a Director of the Myatt Center for Diversity, Inclusion and Multicultural Education. The successful candidate for this position will provide visionary leadership for an office whose mission is to advocate for underrepresented students, educate the campus community on issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion, and facilitate interaction between diverse groups of students within an environment that respects and celebrates the uniqueness of all community members. The Director will partner with the Dean of Students’ office to optimize student learning through high quality, effective programs that develop resilient student leaders by teaching effective teamwork in a diverse community, increase student civic engagement, and support global and cultural awareness.

 

The Director’s primary job responsibilities are to

  • Envision, develop and implement University-sponsored programs that celebrate diversity, such as Hispanic Heritage Month, Black History Month, Native American Heritage Month, Women’s History Month, LGBTQ History Month, and Identity
  • Envision, develop and implement programs that increase student civic engagement through service learning, volunteerism, voter registration, et
  • Support student-led initiatives that design and implement programs to foster greater awareness and understanding of diverse
  • Develop, recommend, support and/or carry out diversity/inclusion training in various University sectors, including University of No Hate program modules, and Safe Zone Ally Training. Collects data to help identify where diversity training might be needed, and work with the faculty or administrators who oversee the identified area to propose
  • Support the bias incident response system which includes reporting, responses and restorative measures for student-related issues. Work collaboratively with the Dean of Students Office on serious incidents requiring disciplinary
  • Advise and advocate for underrepresented students and/or students who are marginalized due to sex, race, ethnicity, national origin, language, religion, age, gender identity and expression, ability, sexual orientation, marital status and/or social

 

The Myatt Center Director reports to the Vice President for Diversity & Inclusion. A Master’s degree with at least three years of related experience is required. Must have excellent communication skills, the ability to multitask in a dynamic environment, and create and maintain collaborative relationships with University departments. Full-time professional salary and benefits package.
