University seeks a Facility Manager who will work for the Office of
Laboratory Animal Resources (OLAR) at WVU in Morgantown WV.
OLAR provides animal care for all animals used in biomedical
research at WVU. The Office of Laboratory Animal Resources (OLAR)
Facility Manager, under direction of the OLAR director, is
responsible for the overall operation and management of the animal
facilities to ensure that animal care and housing are provided in
accordance with state, federal, and university polices and
regulations, and AAALAC standards. The position directly manages
husbandry staff.

- Development of policies, procedures and processes related to animal husbandry;
- Oversight of procurement and inventory management of essential supplies such as feed, bedding, and personal protective equipment, caging, cage wash supplies, etc.
- Oversight of training and implementation of standard operating procedures related to animal husbandry Verify animal care staff are trained and adhere to all university and OLAR operating procedures.
- Manage animal care staff,
- Duties include assigning daily work tasks, disciplinary actions, evaluations.
- Maintain appropriate records and files related to facility
operation and maintenance.
- Formulate budget proposals, selection, negotiating, and purchase of major equipment, and participating in strategic planning of new or renovated animal facility space.
- Provide guidance, design input, planning and oversight of construction projects involving animal facilities/spaces.
- Oversight of the quality assurance program for verification of
sanitization effectiveness.
- Assists with oversight of operation and maintenance of the High Containment (A/BSL-3) facility.
- Assist investigators in solving issues related to use of the
animal facility and establishes a customer service approach with
the research community. This position supports research endeavors
funded by extramural and intramural sources that depend on the
quality of the animal care and use program and the effective
management of the animal facilities.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in laboratory animal science or equivalent;
- Five (5) years experience managing or supervising a laboratory animal facility.
- Excellent time management and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and provide guidance to a group of workers
- Strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to develop collegial relationships with researchers,
are essential to this position.

- Valid driver’s license
- Medical Monitoring
- CMAR certification or eligibility is preferred.
