Overview:

 

The psychology department at Salem State University is seeking to fill a full-time, temporary, one year, faculty position in counseling or clinical psychology beginning in January 2021. Applicants for this position should be prepared to a) teach specialized graduate and undergraduate courses in the MS Counseling Program and Department of Psychology, depending on the applicant's expertise; b) maintain an active program of scholarship/research; c) demonstrate commitment to infusing multicultural content and social justice principles across all course work, research, supervision, advising & mentoring, and training; and d) contribute to and support efforts to seek and maintain accreditation for the MS Counseling Program. The MS Counseling Program is currently an evening program and all classes meet after 4:30 pm.

Duties and Responsibilities:

 

Candidates are required to perform duties in accordance with the MSCA contract. Duties include teaching, advising, and contributions to continuously improve the department and university. The standard teaching load is 12 credit hours per semester (may include combination among 2-3 graduate courses and/or 1-2 undergraduate courses). The position is subject to available funding.

 

Required Qualifications:

  1. An earned PhD or PsyD in counseling or clinical psychology from an accredited program. (ABD candidates may be considered if doctorate is completed by December 31, 2020.)
  2. Experience and demonstrated effectiveness in graduate and/or undergraduate teaching
  3. License eligibility or licensure as psychologist and/or mental health counselor in the state of Massachusetts
  4. Experience in clinical settings with respect to supervision and/or training of individuals
  5. Experience in and commitment to teaching using distance learning and instructional technologies
  6. Experience in and commitment to teaching, research, advising and/or mentoring students of diverse backgrounds and learning styles
  7. Record of implementing social justice principles
Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Prior experience and/or knowledge of the accreditation process in counseling, psychology, or related mental health professions
  2. Administrative experience in managing practicum and internship clinical training of trainees and engagement with community-based mental health agencies
  3. Licensure with 3 years of full-time clinical mental health counseling experience as psychologist and/or mental health counselor
  4. Candidates should demonstrate an active program of scholarship/research
