Central Connecticut State University invites applications for a Program Administrator for research and research compliance within the School of Graduate Studies. The Program Administrator will assist with activities within the School of Graduate Studies including the coordination and implementation of research and research compliance activities that are overseen by the Associate Vice President of Graduate Studies, Research, and Faculty Development. The Program Administrator will ensure confidential records are maintained in compliance with Federal standards and assist in the development of
compliance-based training materials and programs.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES :

Plans, organizes and coordinates the daily operations of the department/program. Provides assistance which may include research and writing to faculty, staff, students, vendors, clients and/or other business executives on department/program matters. Prepares materials and schedules meetings.

Assists with cultivation of business relations and department programs by planning, organizing and coordinating the activities of the various programs and events developed by the department. Tasks may include copying, organizing and coordinating materials for faculty and staff, scheduling meetings, arranging visits and confirming transportation and internship placements with sites and procuring materials as needed.

Provides information on the schedule of programs, seminars and other activities to clients using computer database, publishing paper lists and/or web page(s), and university catalogues. Coordinates with other campus departments/activities for optimum utilization of resources.

Assists in the preparation and/or dissemination of publications and/or services for the marketing of programs and/or events and coordinates with media as well as other departments when appropriate.

Assists the Administrator in planning and implementation of training programs and/or symposiums.

Develops systems to control intake, processing and maintenance of records, documents and similar materials.

Creates and maintains databases for monitoring various program activities, costs or other functions. Prepares a variety of routine as well as ad hoc reports as needed.

In the absence of the supervisor, conducts routine business such as referring clients to appropriate contacts, responding to client’s inquiries and providing brief program explanations as needed and resolving minor problems that may arise. May represent the University at required meetings and/or functions.

May promote mutual understanding of domestic and international business executives, professionals, clients, and potential clients by answering programmatic questions with sensitivity to the difference in their respective business cultures.

Performs other duties and responsibilities related to those enumerated above which do not alter the basic level of responsibility of the position.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in related area required.
  • Two or more years of experience coordinating department-related programs and/or events.
  • Considerable knowledge of office systems and procedures
  • Considerable knowledge of proper grammar, punctuation and spelling
  • Knowledge of business communications; some knowledge of business math
  • Ability to schedule and prioritize office workflow; ability to operate office equipment.
  • Demonstrated ability to use personal computer and word processing and standard business software.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate interpersonally as well as in writing
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Preference may be given for experience working with domestic and international clients.
  • Credentials and/or experience substantially comparable to the above may also be considered.

The Community: Located nine miles southwest of Hartford, New Britain is a city of some 70,000. Part of the Greater Hartford area of 1.2 million residents, New Britain is centrally located in the state and is within easy reach of much of Connecticut and several metropolitan areas in the region. New Britain’s population is characterized by a high degree of racial and ethnic diversity. Known as “Little Poland,” 17 percent of its population are of Polish background. It is the home of three Polish language newspapers and one television station, and annually hosts the Little Poland Festival. Significant portions of its population come from Puerto Rican, Italian, and Irish backgrounds. Currently, 37 percent of its population are Hispanic; 11 percent are African American; 25 percent live below the poverty line.

In addition to all that Hartford provides, New Britain is 40 minutes from Springfield, Mass., two hours from Boston, and two hours from New York City. It is also part of the Hartford-Springfield “Knowledge Corridor” and, therefore, within easy driving distance of a host of private and public institutions of higher education and many cultural opportunities.

Salary is commensurate with education and experience.
