Position Summary:

The Influenza Research Institute (IRI) is an active and growing influenza research laboratory supporting cutting-edge research on negative-strand RNA viruses including influenza, SARS-CoV-2, and replication-deficient ebolavirus. The research group numbers over 30 including scientists, post-docs, technicians and grad students.

Degree and Area of Specialization:

Bachelors or Masters degree in biological sciences

Minimum Years and Type of Relevant Work Experience:

For the Associate and no-prefix Research Specialist: Essential qualifications include a Bachelor or Master degree, preferentially in the area of molecular virology or a related field, with up to seven years of experience in laboratory research. For Senior Research Specialist, more than seven years of experience in laboratory research are required.

Experience working with animals is desirable. Cell culture experience is important. Biological Safety Level 3 (BSL3) experience is desirable, but not required. Top candidates will have training in biosafety and infectious disease. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required.

Additional Information:

The successful candidate must pass a background check and be approved by the Secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services under 42 CFR 73.8 and the Criminal Justice Information Security Risk Assessment. Ability to undergo and maintain a favorable background investigation and National Select Agent Registration security risk assessment. In addition, the ability to maintain a driver's license is required.
Annual seasonal influenza vaccination.
A criminal background check will be conducted prior to hiring.
A period of evaluation will be required.
